Viper 5901

Anyone have any experience with the Viper 5901? Especially on 04-08 F-150s? Thanks!

I have the 5901 and I'm extremely happy with how well it works and it's features. Mines on an 09 though. I got 2 of the window open and close modules so that when i lock the doors the windows will close and when it's stupidly hot out i can crack the windows to what ever position i like. I have the knock sensor that is very sensitive to dings and knocks. The glass break sensor which is also a handy feature is a good feature. Tilt alarm so that people cant tow the truck or take the wheels witout the alarm sounding. Battery backup for the alarm and all 4 windows have one touch auto up and down via the drivers doors. Remote start also works very well but best of all the 2 way paging is the feature i was interested in more than anything. So far i have been about 1.2-1.3 miles on open land and it still does all of it's functions. But it was not cheap. I was given prices from $100 installed to $700+ installed. I wanted the lifetime warranty for parts and labor so i went with a local company who had great recommendations and they done it for $600 installed but i had to buy the stuff from them to get the full warranty so it cost me about 20% more than online prices. But worth it for the peace of mind.

Now when the viper 5901 was installed did they remove the factory keyless entry system or did they incorporate it into the factory system? I'm looking into getting one of these alarms to install myself but I am confused when it comes to factory configurations with keyless entry already installed. Any ideas? I have a '07 F150 STX SuperCab.

I have the Vipder 5901 too in a 2009 lariat.
Two options: sacrifice one of your two keys for the system to "authenticate you" or but a $50-60 module that is a copy of the chip from your key.

I went with the module.

I would NOT install this yourself. It is very complicated, especially with the remote engine start.

If you need anything email me. I should be able to walk you through any given part of the alarm.

I found the installation manual for 5901. I'm good with wiring diagrams, being as I'm an electronic technician for a living, so I think I'm going to try this. I've done countless sound system installs but this is a bigger beast. Thanks Low E I might have to take you up on your assistance.

I looks intimidating but if you go through it all you can eliminate a few of the wires and take them one by one and knock it out in a few hours.

As long as something has a wiring diagram I'll be fine. Do I NEED the bitwriter or can I do an install without it?

No you can use the valet button to program but a bitwriter makes it 1000x easier.

I had the 5901 installed at the dealership when i bought my truck in March, i i just ordered a proximity sensor and a glass break sensor as well as a backup battery and a bitwriter. I really like it and am looking to expand the system, although i wish i could get the heated seats to turn on and also to use the keypad to disarm. Anyone make this work?

vipers dont have a wired remote disarm, so the only way to do it is to take apart a remote and solder your unlock wires to the disarm button on the remote. Its not as simple as I just described it either haha. Im pretty sure heated seats could be turned on with a relay...

Crawl under your dash and make sure the guys at the dealership didnt use T taps to install your alarm. If they did make them redo it with solder.

Actually the first time they just wrapped them and taped them, i had to return it to them as it was a rats nest and i wanted everything soldered. I still can't believe that the dealership would do such a poor job but its what i am coming to expect and is exactly why i am installing the additional sensors myself.
