IPOD Locations

So I finally did the deed and bought a DNX8120, Alpine Amp, Kicker Sub with under seat enclosure in my '08 SCREW. Thanks for all the posts and ideas guys! I even did headrest monitors myself, thanks to another post on the forums... Thanks again!

My question now is what are you guys doing for IPOD storage solutions. I got the IP300V to go with the 8120 and currently have the IPOD in the glove compartment, but that is not really a good location for me. I take it into the gym with me alot and my wife uses her ipod in there from time to time. In addition, I frequent sync to the CPU because there are podcasts that I subcribe to.

It seems to me that there might be some ideas on fabricating a mount or someway to store the ipod in a more convenient location in the truck. I was thinking maybe the armrest/jumpseat, the storage tray above the H/U, or maybe something underneath the steering column.

Not sure what year truck or options you have, but if you've got one of the newer trucks with the full center console, it's easy to run the cable from the deck into the console storage box.

I have mine in the glove box along with the two iPod plugs (one for music and one for video.....the AVIC-D3 works that way) and while I agree that this is not the most convenient location, it works for me. But only if you are able to control it with your HU. Otherwise it is way too far to reach!

My second choice for location (actually first) was in the overheard rail system bin where some people store sunglasses. The only reason I did not put the iPod there is because my cable was too short.

It's a 2008, with the fold down center console/jump seat. I have seen the pics of the ones with full time center consoles, but I have 4 kids and use the middle jump seat quite frequently. I had considered putting the iPod in the console, but am not sure how I should get the wire inside there. There seems to be no obvious holes, so either there is a punchout somewhere that I am not aware of or I will have to drill a hole large enough to push the connector through.

I've got mine in my center console as well. Mine is one of the old school with the box module instead of just a cable. On the 01, the tray pulls out with a lot of extra space underneath it. thats where the module, the GPS antenna, and the brain for my N3 are mounted, then the IPOD cable just runs through there up into the tray.

Nope. I sure haven't heard the difference... even though I've tried to. I'm playing 320mps MP3's from a flash drive, which I'm assuming would be the same as the best quality MP3's from an iPod, and on the rare occasions I tried a CD, they only sounded "equally great".

If "you" can hear a big difference, I wish I had hearing that was that good. Or, maybe I don't ;-) It's actually kind of cool when something as conveniant as an MP3 file sounds as good as it possibly could ;-)

Peace,
Fish

Doesnt the compression of any given song found on your iPod depend on the codec used to compress it? i.e., Apple lossless should equal a CD quality.

It also depends on the system your listening to your music on . In your case , what would that be ?

Hey 1bad.....

I'm using a Kenwood Excelon X792. I believe its pretty much Kenwoods top of the line deck (for 08' anyway) same SQ as the X991, just a few less bells and whistles.

And I actually tried it again yesterday after I posted this, just to see once again (to convince myself I wasn't just blowing smoke ;-) and same results as before. Both the CD and 320bps MP3's sounded equally awesome.

So yea'...... if their is some noticeable difference between MP3's and CD, with other players, everybody needs to ditch those players and get an Excelon ;-) LOL

BTW, My deck can be bought from a walk-in dealer for about $300... a good deal for what it is. Or, from a gray market place like SonicElectronix.com for like $179 (rediculously low !)

Peace,
Fish

If I make my own MP3s from my CDs the quality is excellent and I can't tell a difference. I've also downloaded MP3s that claim to be 320 that you can definitely tell have been compressed. It all comes down to the source.

Mine is in my glovebox and is ran by my stock hu through a brandmotion.
