Post Factory CD, was I deceived?

I got a supposed 2000 model F150 factory CD player on Ebay to replace my AM/FM/Tape. It came with an adapter harness and the CD dash lights were blue instead of green like the cassette's. Was this an older model or do I touch some buttons to make the color change?

I pulled my factory CD player just yesterday. It has green lights, don't know of a way to change the color. Also, the wires from the dash plug directly into the radio via two harness plugs, no adapter harness in between. Hope this helps.

I think you might have gotten an older model CD player. I have a 97 f150 and it has the blue lights. This is the only year that I know of that has the blue lights, every other year is green. Also as far as I know you can't change the color. If its in good condition and you don't want to keep it email me at powerstroke73@hotmail.com and let me know what you want for it I have been looking for one like that off and on.

they switched to green lights in 1998.
email the seller and tell him you took it to a dealer to install it and it is not from a 2000 model.
then report him to ebay.i hate guys that lie about their products.

please send me the link to the auction.they stay on for 30 days after auction end.

My '98 has blue (or blue-green) lights. I bought a dual media head unit from a guy on Ebay. Turned out it had a green display.

Just the opposite problem as yours.

They switched to green in the '99 models and up. Upgraded to a '99 CD player... Very weird, door switches and cd player are green but the everything else is blue...

A couple of you have replied and stated that you have the opposite problem, does anyone want to switch their green unit for my blue one. I realize mine is a year older so I would happily throw in a few bucks on the deal.

My email is hometech@iaxs.net, please contact me on or offlist.

OK, You guys seem to know all about the factory cd changers... Can you tell me if I
have a factory am/fm/cassette, can it be easily swapped for a am/fm/cassette/cd-changer. If so, where does the factory changer mount? I have a 99 F150.

Yes it can. You have the base AM/FM/Tape radio. You can get the Premium AM/FM/Tape radio which has controlls for a CD changer. Or, you can get the Premium/AM/FM/CD player radio which has a single CD slot in the radio. This radio also works with a CD changer by the way.

Since you have a 1999 F150, the radios are all interchangeable.

The CD changer is mounted in different spots depending on your cab.
Single cab, behind driver seat
Supercab front bench, under rear bench
Supercab captain's chairs, in center console
Supercrew, behind rear bench.

Crashthings,
Yep, still have it, works great but doesn't match my dash. Do you happen to have a green one in a truk with blue dash lights?

Most F150 radios are interchanegeable, except for a 1997 or 1998 Premium radio. You can tell it is a premium because it has a CD button.

The 97/98 Premium radio uses an external amplifier. It has the blue lights and long rectangular connectors on the back. This radio is the oddball. All other F150 radios can be intercanged.

this happens all the time.

these guys on ebay think the radios are all the same so they can say they have a 2001 radio and it really be 4 years old and they can get more for it. 97 was the last year for the blue lights. they switched to green in 98. leave the guy negative feedback and then tell him you want your money back.

Actually, the '98's had blue lights, green appeared in '99.

But I agree with buying a radio on eBay. Buyer beware! Been there, done that.
