Factory Head Unit and modifications question???
I am starting to do some searches in the sound area and I was wondering if there is anyone out there that kept the stock head unit and add a 4 channel amp to it to move four speakers (quality replacements). This a Lariat with the factory "premium" sound system including the four speakers, 6 cd changer and cassette player.
Or maybe a 5 channel amp to move a sub as well. Any problems found? Can be done?
I was wondering if people like Crutchfield has a wiring harness to easily connect the head unit to other aftermarket.
I am looking forward to keep the factory unit but open to suggestions and ideas.

JMTruck,
Crutchfield does sell the speaker-to-RCA adaptor. I put one in my girlfriends Civic. It works pretty well. Definitely go with a 5 ch. amp, it's alot easier than using one amp for the mids/tweets and another for the subs. Plus, Crutchfield has all the little wire connectors for the speakers.

Thanks Jupiterak. I think I will call Crutchfield with all my concerns about this. I am still wondering if there is no problem to connect an amp to the factory head unit.
What are the specifications on your 5 channel amp? Price?

Here's what I used on the Civic. I had to use two of them for the four speakers. But I'm not sure about the capatibility problems with the built-in amp on the Ford deck.
I have a Alpine MRV-F353 V12 amp. The amp runs 30x4 + 100x1 at 12.6 volts. I don't remember what the specs are at 14.4 volts. I paid $340.00 for it.
Honestly, if you're gonna deal with Crutchfield, I'd recommend you get a nice CD deck. And they'll provide you with all the wire adaptors and dash kit. I've delt with them several times and highly recommend them.
