cd changer static
I have a 98 supercab and the cd changer is giving me problems. When I play a cd, static is audible in the background. It is getting worse where the audio track is barely audible over the static. I have tried my cds on other cd players and the cds are fine. Has anybody else experienced this and what is the fix?
I don't know if my experience is typical, but I make CD-R copies of all my CD's to keep in the truck. That way, my original CD's are protected from being scratched/ruined by me.
Anyway, I have found that the cheap, no-name spindle CD-R's I have tried have terrible static in the background when played in my truck (they sound fine in my home stereo, though). Original CD's do fine in the truck, as do name-brand (ie, Memorex) CD-R's. Is your problem only seen with CD-R's or original CD's? Futhermore, I found that the sound quality of the cheap CD-R seems to deteriorate over time, as the CD player heats up -- for example, the first song sounds OK, but the 4th or 5th song sounds awful.
My solution to the problem has been to use name-brand (Memorex) CD-R's. I'd be interested in finding out if my experience is unique.

It is definitely the cd changer and not the cds that is causing the static. I am not getting the full signal from the cd changer without the interference (static). It is the stock cd changer. I am mostly playing original cds and not cd-Rs. I have taken my cds out of my changer and played them on my home cd player and no static. So it is definitely the cd changer. I use good quality cd-Rs too but that is not the cause. I have tried compressed air to try to blow out the inside of the changer. I thought maybe some piece of dust was in the way of the laser that reads the cd. It did not work. Any help would be appreciated.
