factory head unit question
a friend of mine told me that some factory head units turn down the bass as you turn the volume up so the speakers don't get hurt. Does anybody know if this is true? If it is, does Ford do it? On Lightnings? Appreciate any help.

I think I've heard of that, but most likely it's just the cheap-*** speakers being pushed past what they are capable of. I yanked my "Premium" speakers (the whole system for that matter) out in the first month. They really sucked.

Not sure if the Ford stock units do this or not, but what you talking about is called "Loudness" function and it actually turns up the bass and treble as you turn down the volume. At higher volume levels the Loudness function has no effect as it tapers off as volume is increased.
This is done to compensate for human hearing being less sensitive to low and high frequency sounds as volume gets lower. Many units including home systems have a Loudness on/off button on the front panel.

I don't know for sure but trust me you want to rip that radio and speakers out if your gonna do any stereo mods in a lightning. I took mine out the next morning I woke up after I got my L. best thing I've ever done to it.
