Post Stereo Replacement

I am considering a replacement of the factory stereo and have comparatively little knowledge of the market/features of these units. I have settled on a Nakamichi head unit (CD-40) and Eclipse Point Source 5 x 7 speakers. The head unit is being quoted to me for $250 and the speakers for $150 per pair, before tax and installation. I haven't counter offered yet but wondered about opinions here before i did.

I'm also getting Dynamat installed under the floors, in the doors, and along the back of the cab. I have a reg. cab XL with carpet. Do I really need the Dynamat on the floor (I have carpeting)? Along the back of the cab?

Any constructive opinions would be appreciated. Btw, I am being quoted $120 (installed) for the premium (has a layer of aluminum with deadening on both sides)Dynamat in both doors (that's $60 each), $45 for the back of the cab, and about $120 for under the carpet. I know what this stuff is supposed to do, but not much about how much it costs to buy or install....

Sounds like you have some money to blow. About right for the installation, I would definetly get it on the floor and back wall if you can afford to. Are you installing subs and amps or just replacing factory system. Nice HU and speakers by the way.

those prices sound about right for installing the Dynomatt.Just make sure they do not cover the vents on the back panel, or you will have a hard time shutting your doors. You need the vents open to relive air pressure. The Dynomat will quiet down road noise, so you can enjoy the new system.
I sound proofed my cab, you have to remove most of the interior so there is a lot of labor involved, if you can get them to lower the price go for it, can't hurt to ask.If you can aford it go for it.

well not to sure how the eclipse's sound but that sounds right. First the speakers are easy to change if you no anything about car's so don't pay for that. The radio's easy to do also. Buy the face kit for it any get a wiring harness. That will save you two hundred right there. Don't know how much you want to spend but I did the kicker 5x7's in my truck. They run about 300 hundred depending on you location. Fit perfect and they have a swiveling tweeter seperate from the woofer so you can aim them upwards at you. Also if the want too. Also if you have a regular cab, buy the Qform kick pannels. The look like their from the factory and work great. There only 200 bucks and they have all the ford colors in the interior. If you get those QFORMs put the kicker resolution 5.25's in those they are beatiful. Cost about 400 for those but well worth the money if you love your music. If you have any questions about this just E-mail me And I'll tell you everything you want to know. Been doing stereo's for five years.
