Pre-Amps??
I Have A 1999 F-150 LARIAT EXTENED CAB. THE AUDIO SYSTEM IS COMPLETELY STOCK AND I WOULD LIKE TO LEAVE IT THAT WAY BUT ADD A AMP+SUB UNDER THE REAR SEAT. I TOOK OUT THE RADIO AND NOTICED THAT THERE WERE NO PRE-AMPS IN THE BACK. IS THERE A WIRING HARNESS I COULD USE TO GET A SET OF PRE-AMPS OR SHOULD I JUST RUN A LINE FROM ONE OF MY REAR SPEAKERS? ALSO IF ANYONE KNOWS OF PLANS TO BUILD THE SUB BOXES FOR A 1999 UNDER THE REAR SEAT COULD YOU PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I SAW THE ONES A MEMBER HAD POSTED FOR A 1997 OR 98...BUT I DON'T KNOW IF 1999 WOULD BE THE SAME PLANS WOULD IT???HELP PLEASE...ALL ANSWERS ARE VALUED.

FORD,
The only way I know to do what you want is to tap into your speaker wires with a low level converter that will give you the rca low level outputs you need. Some amps have this converter built right into them.
Only problem doing it this way is that you will never get the sound quailty as you would with pre-amp outputs right from the head unit. Once the signal gets amplified, there is distortion in it. By tapping into your speaker wires you are converting this already amplified signal with distortion back into low level. When you run this to your amp, it gets amplified again, adding even more distortion. This takes away from your sound quality.
Unfortunately, if you want to keep the stock head unit, this is your only choice.
And yes, the plans for 97-98 box are the same for the 99. The rear seat changed a little in 00, but 97-99 are the same.

FordRacing99...you may have read my reply to someone like yourself. I am setup like boss96hog described. Depending on your own tastes that setup is fine for me. The stock H.U. deters stickyfingers from getting too nosey with my stereo system! Anyway, e-mail me @ SideJobBob@aol.com and we can continue fine tuning your truck. I live up the road from you.
