Original Equipment MP3 Players?
I'm trying to enlist opinions from people to see what the feeling would be toward the possiblity of an MP3/CD player as an original equipment piece for Ford. What kind of features do you think it should have? Do you think it's a good idea at all? It looks like it may be in the works and if I can come up with some input I can pass it along to them.

Ideally it would read MP3 files burned onto CD-R/CD-RW. Even better would be a CD changer that would read MP3 files...you could have your entire CD collection in the car! This is far more versatile than memory sticks or the like that only hold about 1 CD of music.
In addition, it should be able to read the IDv3 tags from the files so that the headunit display could display the song title, artist, album, genre, etc.
The unit should scan the tags when new discs are inserted and have an interface to search for artist/album etc. A shuffle function that allows you to play songs of only one genre, year, artist, etc would be cool too.
The player should also be able to handle variable bit rate files (VBR) and support constant bit rate (CBR) files of various bitrates (i.e support more than just 128kbps).

What he said. I guess it's too late for me, at least for awhile, but I want a mp3 player in my truck. I just have to sell my head unit I have and buy and aftermarket one.
Here's an Aiwa unit http://www.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S...CDCMP3&o=M&a=0

Make sure it will still read standard cd's as well.
As far as a changer, I don't know if I would need one, as I can easily fit 100+ songs on a CD.
It would also be cool if it would read the 700 MB discs that are out. 50 more megs per CD is nothing to ignore.
