Went to the best buy today and bought a clarion tape deck and changer. They are running a special "2 pioneer speakers Free". So I wanted to get them too. Then the guy at the store tells me that there will be $30 install charge. I told him that there is no mention of that and the ad says that it will be free. He finally after arguing a while agree to put them in. But after I pick up the truck when everthing (tape/changer) was intalled, they tell me that they didn't install the speakers because A) they have to remove the original factory speakers to put these two speakers in or B) the speakers can't be installed with existing speakers because the system can't handle it. My question is how many speakers are in the original 2000 Ford f150xlt and whether I can install these two speakers without removing any original speakers. Should I take the truck back to them and tell them to install it or just return the speaker for refund. Will it make any noticable difference in sound?

The intalled tape deck was
Clarion RAX4600 180W(45wx4)max power output.
Speakers are Pioneer TS-162 80w max

I think the installer was giving you some BS mixed with alittle facts. First of all it is common to replace the factory speakers with new ones..meaning 99% of the time when someone buys new speakers from them and has them installed,they remove the stock speakers and put the new ones in their place. As for 'adding' them to your system and it not being able to handle it,you wouldn't be adding them..you'd be replacing the old ones. Also,the original speakers in your F150 are 6x8"..theres one in each door (4 in the super-cabs). Im pretty sure the Pioneers you got are round speakers and would need to have a special plate built to mount them in the 6x8" holes you have in your truck. This is an easy thing to do and you shouldn't be charged very much for it. A good installer wouldnt charge any extra for them. While the Pioneer you got for free arent all that great,Im sure they will sound lots better than the stock ones. If you wanted to spend alittle more money, you could also get a nicer set that would bolt right in. Hope this helps.

Actually Pioneer makes 6x8's. I don't know what size they are giving you but Pioneer carrys the 6x8. It is very common to replace stock speakers with aftermarket, so I'd say they are giving you BS because you pushed the free install on them. In fact I can't imagine buying speakers and "adding" them without replacing factory speakers.

Pioneer makes "true" 6x8 speakers that fit perfect into the fatory holes and sound great! I installed the same speakers myself in my truck. I ordered them from Crutchfield and they sent the instructions and wiring harness. Take a look at the 6x8's they make. I think you would really like them.

Did you get the 3-ways or 2-ways? I've been thinking of getting some for my truck. I noticed they have 6x8's with horn drivers now. Been wondering how those sound too.
