Question Help Needed

I have a 98 with a Pioneer cd player. I want a real good system with equal amount of highs and lows. What speakers, subs, amps would be recommended? Any help would be great. Send me an e-mail at r_dolsen@yahoo.com

Thanks Ryan

It all depends on a few things. Do you have a reg cab,or a super cab, and what is your budget?
I am running a ADS amp,6x40 watts, and I run everything off the amp. You could get a 4 channel amp and run the front speakers and the subs off the amp, and the rear speakers off the pioneer head unit.
As for speakers it kind of depends on what type of music you like, take a look at the Diamond, and the Boston Acouctic seperates.
Look at the speaker, and subwoofer sections here, they will give you a lot of ideas.
good luck

54Regcab: I see you have Memphis components, how do you like them? I've just had Memphis 6 1/2" components put up front, their 5x7's put in the rear and a 10" Memphis sub put under the rear seat. Were're talking some serious sound here.

STX: Thunder has an excellent idea about checking for last years models on amps. I found mine at www.crunchfield.com at a steal. It's a 5/4/3 channel amp so you can run it in many different kinds of set ups. Right now I've got a pair of components, a pair of 5x7's and a sub running off of it. The only difference between it and the new models was the color of the case and of course the model #. Mine is APA5240 and the new one's are APA5241.

See sig for what I have...most of the text are linked to the appropriate manufacturer website.

To be able to answer your question, first you have to specify a budget you're comfortable with to be able to achieve what I understand from you to be balanced sound.

Several thoughts:

1. Don't skimp on the components. Get the best quality you can afford. At the end of the day, it's cheaper to get what sounds good to you, something you'll be really happy with than taking the route of getting cheaper components now with an eye towards upgrading to better components in the future. Made that mistake...cost me a bundle.

2. You might want to allocate your budget for speakers (front and rear) solely for the front. Get a good set of three ways. Listen to Dynaudio, Focal and a/d/s/ if you're planning to spend a bundle. A not so expensive alternative without the commensurate loss of quality are DEI speakers. If do go the three way route, plan on getting kickpanels (Q-forms come to mind...there may be others) and mount the mids and tweeters there. You get the best soundstage that way. The woofers then go into the doors in the stock location. They should be able to take up to an eight incher without much difficulty.

3. With amps, go for quality rather than quantity. A good amp rated at 50w will sound better at loud volumes that a second rate amp claiming to have a 1000w peak power. It goes without saying though that getting a more powerful (good quality) amp can only be better for your system. You might want to check out amps from a/d/s/, DEI, ESX (last years line, not the newer ones, though I forget the name of the line), Genesis and Zapco. DEI would be another not so expensive good bet. Given that you have limited space in the truck, the best bet is to get a multichannel amp. A nice solution would be to get a 100wx4 amp, use the front L and R channels to power the front speakers and bridging the rear channels to power the sub.

4. Don't worry about rear speakers. You don't really need them. Oftentimes, if installed incorrectly, they will only serve to affect your system negatively. If your truck has rear seats and rear passengers complain, tell them to get their own ride.

Feel free to email me if you have other questions as I don't check the audio boards too often.

Hope this helps.

I have a 98 STX re cab and I'm putting a Sony
CDX-C680 deck, sony 2252HX, sony xm-604eqx,
boston acoustic 10.5LF 2-ohm subs, and infinity kappa comp. I built the box myself,
the subs only need between .34 & .5 cubic air space(lost no seat room). If you have any questions about the box e-mail me at (Scott_Slone_tim@yahoo.com) .
I know some places where I got my stuff was a steal compared to those store prices. Autotoys.com TMS Electronics.com .

Good Luck

Cool

Buying a four channel amp to run your system is a great way to save space and make for a clean install.Once again component speakers sound best. You didnt state your budget or if your truck is a SC or Regular Cab but a pair of tens would fit perfectly or even 3tens,You could also fit a pair of twelves as long as they dont require alot of space and most of your the quality subs dont.I have a pair of 12inch JLAudio W3s I want to sell for $300 they are two months old.
