Metra finally releases two CAN-bus interfaces

The answer to adding a aftermarket radio to your vehicle and not loosing audio or even full function to the OEM overhead monitor is finally here. Metra/Axxess has been working on this for quite awhile. I guess they got tired of me pestering them. Here's the email update I received this morning.

The Ford rear seat entertainment system interface (AFDI-RSE-01) is designed to allow the installation of an aftermarket radio into a Ford CAN bus vehicle. The interface provides audio to the aftermarket radio from the rear seat system and provides the following outputs for navigation radios -- radio turn on, illumination, park, reverse and vehicle speed sense (VSS).

Models include the Ford Edge (2007-08); 2008 Escape; Expedition (2007-08); Explorer (2006-08); F-150 (2004-08); 2006 Freestyle; Fusion (late 2007-08); Sport Trac (late 2007-08); 2008 Taurus and Taurus X; the 2008 Mercury Mariner, Milan (late 2007-08) and Mountaineer (2006-08); Lincoln Mark LT (2006-08), MKX (2007-08), MKZ (late 2007-08) and Navigator (2006-08).

The Ford CAN THX amplified system interface, AFDI-THX-01, is designed for the installation of an aftermarket radio into a Ford CAN vehicle, allowing the OEM THX amplifier to be used as part of the system.

The AFDI-THX-01 turns on the THX amplifier when the aftermarket radio is turned on, controlling the front to rear fade. All the necessary outputs are provided when installing an aftermarket navigation radio -- radio turn on, illumination, park, reverse, and vehicle speed sense (VSS).
