Eclipse Stereo

Has anyone installed a Eclipse system. Is the quailty any good? The security feature sounds better than the removable face. Is there a place to get a discount. No local stores here will discount them.

i have an eclipse stereo in my z. it is a very nice piece. i have the 7301 in-dash display with 5961 changer. it costs a little more, but the quality is there...not to mention the security features they provide. as for price, eclipse is very strict as to who sells their products and what they sell them for.

Thanks DavidS for the info. I like the way it works and sounds. Guess I'll bit the bullet and buy it a retail. I ask if they ever put them on sale and was told "WHY" they sell to many at retail!

just thought of something. if you are willing to buy used, you can check ebay.com and classifieds2000.com. i take a look at these two fairly often...they always have eclipse stereo for sale.

Eclipse is the only way to go guys. I have owned an eclipse head unit for years and I'm just about to get a new one because of discounts I can get because of being an employee of a company who sells them. I work with eclipse equipment everyday and it is very hard to beat. The quality is superior to all other brands and it is backed by THE only 3 year warranty on the market. AND if the radio is stolen within the first year of ownership, and it is dealer installed, it will be replaced by eclipse for free. If it is past the first year, chances are that you'll get that radio back anyway, simply because of someone will end up sending it in for service when they can't get the unit to work because of the "key CD." The detachable face units suck because what do you do with the face when you leave the car? You leave the face under the seat or in the glove compartment. The thieves know this and even if they can't find the face in the car, they can order a new one for $50.00! The best part of eclipse is that thieves know they are useless if stolen so they don't even bother to steal them. When the dumb ones do steal, they quickly find out that they can't sell them to anyone because others know they won't work. As far as speakers go, I'm not too big of a fan of their component sets, simply because they are so expensive and there are better sounding component sets out there that are cheaper. However, their coax speakers are awesome as well as their point source speakers where they take a 6x9 or a 5 1/4 and put a seperate tweeter mounted in the middle of the cone of the mid bass driver. It's like having a component set, but all in one piece. They come with crossovers and all. The 6x9's are THE best that I have ever heard, no lie. My stuff should be coming today, with my discount I just ordered the brand new 5443 head unit, with the 3242 amp, as well as one of their new 8710 subs, and a set of point source 6x9's and a set of 5x7 coax's. My truck will be rockin, I can't wait. Eclipse is definitely the way to go. Oh yeah, the reason for the inability to negotiate a price is because the profit margin on most of eclipse's stuff is small already. Us stereo retailers have to make some money you know! Good luck with your systems!

Mike

Unhappy

I bought an eclipse stereo on dealers recommendation but I feel I paid more for security features than performance.(they cost almost twice as much as comparable units) I don't feel like it sounds much better than the factory system (at least with the factory speakers)I would defintly trade it for a factory cd player. In fact if anyone wants to trade email me (see profile) Have only had it about 3 weeks

I've got the "premium" AM/FM/Cassette head unit and a 6-CD changer that I will trade. What is the model of your Eclipse?

54regcab...maybe the speakers should have been replaced first....hmmmm. I think the stock speakers are arguably the worst I have ever heard. I would bet that the stock CD player is not 1/4 as good as Eclipse. I picked up a 5504 at Mobile One for $100 off ($467). It is sweet.

Thumbs up

Replacing the speakers was definitly the answer.
Installed Memphis component set and it is really brought out the Eclipse quality.
Absolutly no "alternator whine" whatsoever
All I need now is a sub and I'm set.

Thumbs up

Eclipse uses a low impedance preamp output (330ohm instead of the normal 10,000ohm)
That is how they get the alternator whine out of the system.
Great idea why didn't anyone think of it sooner?
Alternator whine has always been a problem for me until the Eclipse.
