Good cb and antenna?

Im thinking of getting this cb and antenna
cb-
http://www.walcottcb.com/midland-100...dio-p-735.html
id get it with the lighter plug soldered on

antenna
http://www.walcottcb.com/k30-magnet-...nna-p-769.html

this site has some non magnet antennas too but i cant find a bracket to attach it to my toolbox(where id put the magnetic one)
thoughts, comments? id use it for back country wheeling and roadtrips, with the possibility of a pa speaker later.

ok so the items listed above are on their way. i think im going to put the antenna on the toolbox. where do i get a cheap srw meter so i can make sure its good. ive heard talk of below 3 or 2. does that mean the ratio of channel 1 to channel 40 is 3:1?

local CB shop should be able to check out your setup for a couple bucks.
I think the preferred swr reading is around 1.5

Would mounting the antenna on the toolbox affect your reception/trnasmission toward the front of the trucK? Just wondering...

The best place would be on the roof ,but you could get away with the tool box but you might have to play with it to get the SWR's adjusted. I have a Wilson 1000 mag mount on my tool box and had to change out to a longer stinger ( actual antenna , not base ) to get my numbers down. I would suggest running some grounding straps from your tool box to the frame to help if your SWR's are high. Let us know how it works out. Remember the antenna is everything. You can have the best radio there is but it won't out perform a 30 dollar radio if the antenna is junk. Put your $$$ into your antenna first and you won't be sorry.

While I didn't really want to do it, my magnetic mount is on my roof. I figure if there are little scratches, at least nobody is going to see it up there. great reception with a well-tuned antenna.

Same here. I have a little mini-3' mag-mounted anntenna that I stick on my roof when I need it. It makes my truck look gay up there so I'm triyng to find a place to put it permanently so it dosen't look gay but in the meantime don't want to be a big redneck 10' pole sticking into the stratosphere, either

Cut out a piece of wax paper ( stuff used in the kitchen ) and place it between the mag mount and the truck. It won't affect performance and wont scratch your paint.

Thamks---the antenna is well tuned and I have grea reception/transmission...I didin't want to change anything (new antenna and the like), but this will be a big help.

For those of you who dont want to mount on roof you can always mount off to side of bed. I have a stake hole mount mounted to side of bed rail with a
3' wilson fiberglass antenna with spring and it looks good and the reception is pretty good as well. When I had SWR checked the tech said my numbers couldnt get any better.

I used the same type of set up---a DC plug and heavy-duty velcro. I also just ran the antenna lead under the front seat and ouot of the back door. That way if I need to bring it into the cab it is a snap.
