But the new shop say the ring that comes with the 555will be able to replace prior ring and will be just as proficient....
Is this accurate??????

Thanks. I just talked to guy at my dealership(Ford) who is fimilar with installing remote start alarms. Although he has never heard of a way aftermarket bypass with antenna rings can replace factory, he said he was sure it was available with the 555sw and similar. I just wasnt sure since local shops will say anything for business......

So when installing a bypass, should the factory ring be taken/broken off? Or is this just in a case like mine???

No.

That shop better be DAMN CAREFUL. If that factory box is broken you are SO SCREWED! They arent cheap to fix. They need to get that key off the factory box. And get the 555SW key ring and PUT AROUND the factory box @ the key cylinder.

No. If the factory ring is broken you have a problem. If its the Aftm ring then its all cool and you just get another ring.

The easiest way is with a pick tool or thin flat object and get underneath it.

Alright, the shop got the key free without breaking anything. But if the chip from one of the keys is taken off and glued to the column would this be the as using 555sw?????

No, again bad idea. The 555sw has a keysense wire. (If there is a key in the ign it knows it) This wire tells the 555sw to send the key's signal or not. If the chip is on the column and the truck is started with another key your truck's receiver can be screwed up.

Also with it being on the column if I was to stick a screwdriver in the ign and turn it, your truck wouldnt question it. THAT IS ESSENTIALLY a waste of the PATS.

The same situation with the 555sw. I would have to get the truck's rem start to kick on, to initiate the bypass. Much harder.

I just talked to a Ford dealership again. They told me even with the bypass(DEI), if someone has a similar key to mine, it will still start.
