Need help from audio experts

I'm thinking about adding a 4 channel amp (somewhere around 4x40) to my stock '05 Supercrew HU (Not audiophile,) and 4 new speakers of decent quality to match the amp power. Not interested in a sub. I'm looking for clarity and crispness. Will there really be a noticable difference, or will it be a waste of money? All ideas and suggestions are appreciated.

Yes it will sound better. You will need to buy a line out converter, since the stock HU doesnt have any preouts. If your truck has the stock openings for a seperate tweeter, then i would buy a decent set of components and a two channel amp, and no rear fill. If it doesnt have tweeter openings stock, then 2 sets of coaxials will do fine for what you are looking for. Propablly some polk dbs or alpine type r 5 x 7s should satisfy you.

Thanks for the reply foo. I do have the openings for the tweeters and thought that I might do the components. Why do you recommend the 2 channel over a 4 channel? I thought if you had four speakers, you would use a 4 channel. Would there be a benefit of one over the other? I do understand the concept of the amps and better speakers, but the channel thing is confussing. Thanks again for any help.

He was suggesting that you just get front speakers, and a two channel amp to run them off of, and forget the back speakers. Usually not a bad idea in a truck.
In a huge Screw like yours, sometimes if you dont have very much for front speakers, back ones are nice though.

A nice set of comp's with a healthy amp, and you would be good though. Unless of course, you just hafta have the sound of rear fill.

But yes, if you have 4 speakers, and you want to amplify all them, you will need a 4 channel.

You will see a huge difference going from the HU to a good 40x4 amp.

Definitely listen to these guys. Get a nice set of components for the front and run them off a 2ch-amp. Then just run the back speakers off of your HU.

I agree. When the components are installed right, you cant even tell that you have back speakers. Spent the extra dough on some nicer components up front and get some decent 2 or 3 ways for the rear. The polk momo 6500 are on sale at millionbuy.com. Regular 400 and on sale for 170. I just got mine in today and will be installing over Christmas break. Cant wait.

Another idea

You could stick with the 4 channel and bridge the front speakers, you still use the full potential of the amp, and this way you have adaptability if you decide to add rear speakers in the future. Personally I am for your idea of hooking all 4 speakers to the amp, I like my rear fill, for the slight amount of detail I loose, it makes up for in fullness and volume.
