Amp, Sub ideas???
Amp, Sub ideas???
I have an 03 extended cab. I have an Alpine 9831 HU and Alpine Type-R speakers in the front and rear doors. I want to make the next step forward. My signal starts to gets a little distorted just over half volume so I'm thinking of getting an amp to kick up the power. I want to eventually get a sub also. I want to know if you guys have any suggestions on the kind of amp and or make. I've looked at 4 channel, 5 channel. I'm not sure what direction to go. If I go 4 channel then I would have to get an extra amp later on for the sub(s). Is it worth it to amp the rear speaker doors? I would hate to waste the speakers capability. If I go 5 channel then I'm not sure it'll be able to handle possibly 2 subs. I don't want to go ultra cheap, I would rather spend the extra few bucks for a good system....thats why i'm buying a couple pieces at a time. If you can give me any ideas that would be Sweet!!
After looking around for awhile I think I may go with the JL Audio 300/4 amp. Does anyone have any input on this amplifier...good or bad? I eventually will want to power one 10" sub with it, along with the front Alpine 5x7's Type-R. Does this sound feasible? Is there a 10" subwoofer that I should consider? Has anyone come up with designs or plans for a Sub Enclosure under the rear seats (just a single 10") for an Extended Cab 2003? I know there are some out on the net but I would like to build my own. Thanks to anyone that has any input.
Never had any personal experience with JL amps, but JL is a pretty quality brand, and I would trust their stuff. Just from what Ive heard their amps are supposed to be pretty nice.
If you are going to bridge 2 channels for subs, make sure 2 of the channels have a low pass filter and a crossover setting sepate of the other 2 channels.
Theres definatley enought room for 1 10 under there, unless its a huge 10. Probably have to raise the back seat a couple inches.
There are millions of plans on the net. For one sub, the easiet would be to make a rectangle bob that has about a leg on one end the hieght of the driveshaft hump, and slide it under the 60 portion of the back seat. One end can rest on the driveshaft hump, and the other end help up by the leg-as long as its not a real hi excursion sub so it doesnt hit the floor.

Thanks for your input Bartak. I think I will be running up to the Car Audio store to see if they can cut me a deal. Is it even worth it to try and install your own alarm sytem? I know the labor charges can get pretty high but if its really involved I don't want to trash out my truck trying.
No prob.
Iv never put in an alarm so I dont know whats involved.
If you are getting the alarm locally, ask if you can open a box and look over the instructions to see if it looks like something you can do yourself. I would try and put it in myself and if it gets way to complicated take it to the install place and have them finish installing it.
