Stock Radio Question

Forgive the noobness of this question but is the stock radio in my 2000 F150 Scab ( RDS single CD ) considered a good system?

I'm no audiophile and my commute is short but aftermarket stereos seem affordable to me suddenly. Is it worth replacing the factory unit, especially in light of the fact that I want to hardwire a XM Roady 2 to my truck's system.

Secondly, does anyone have any idea who actually makes the Ford stock radios ??

My personal belief is that aftermarket radios are worth it, it all depends on how much you value the music quality you are listening to, the HU will help, as will better door speakers and a sub. $$$ plays a big part too.

I believe Altec Lansing makes the head units in the 04+, not sure about your 2000

Absolutely. The factory HU's aren't crap, but you can get a really nice HU relatively inexpensive these days. You could replace the speakers alone and notice an improvement, but I'd do both. You may also want to look into adding a dropdown DVD player, or flipup DVD HU. If you're willing to do some work, pull your seats, carpet, door panels, headliner and back panel off and line the entire inside with Dynamat or some other db reducing material. Or take it to a shop and have it done. It's well worth the effort. You'd be surprised how much road noise bleeds into the cab. Have fun.

Noooo, don't pry on the plastic.
You can thank Showya, Y2kXLTSport and LightningCrew for the following info:
Don't forget to remove the trim ring around the stereo first. Kept trying to get mine out with the tools and it would start, then click back. DOH! removed the trim ring and it slipped right out. By the way, if you don't know how to remove the trim around the radio, push the vents on each side of the radio to point towards each other, grab the edge of the trim around each vent (next to the radio) and pull out.

When you insert the 2 wires (OTC 7575 OR Lisle 11770) into each side, you need to push them in until you hear a click, then gently pull out away from the headunit as you at the same time pull tho get mine out with the tools and it would start, then click back. factory unit removal

You need to use a key to get the factory unit out. There should be 4 holes in the front on your radio. You can get these keys many places, I got mine at walmart for $3. Its basically 2 "U" shaped pins that you stick into the holes and push and the deck pops right out, its as easy as that. Hope this helps.
