Installing aftermarket system

Hello, I need help. I'm trying to install a Pioneer DEH 1600 into my 1999 F150. Is there some kind of magic trick to get this to work? I've tried it with aftermarket harnesses and without and cannot get it to work. Does anyone know what my troubles may be? Or does anyone know of a web site where I can get a wiring diagram for a factory stereo(16 pin)? Does the factory amp hookup have anything to do with my problem(if my year of truck has one?). IF anyone has any solutions please help...

Can you be a little specific on what kind of troubles you are having... Is it wiring, mounting, are you using ford harnesses? Is the sound not working? No power? What have you done, what do you have? It's a lot easier to find an answer, w/o having to write up a whole page of "could be's"

There is no amp other than what's inside the deck.

STereo Install

OK. I tried hooking up a stereo with an aftermatker wiring harness to the stock wiring. I had no power coming to stereo after hookup. I got a wiring diagram for my 1999 f150 and too the factory harness off and tried to hook the wires up directly, still no power. Aftermarket stereo works, so its not the problem. Fuses aren't blown. When I put factory back in it powered up and worked. SO I guess my question was .....Does Ford have some little trick that needs to be performed to install aftermarket stereos?

Check the aftermarket harness maybe it's not wired correctly for the new head unit. Since both the factory unit and the aftermarket head unit both work this seems like the most likely problem.

No, there's no trick to installing an aftermarket deck, no multiplexing, or magic keyturns. Try connecting the deck constant and switched together and attach that group of wires, to either switched or constant in the truck. Hopefully you will get some action and this way it'll give you an alternative to troubleshooting. Is your fact ground good? Will the factory deck turn on w/o the antenna plugged in?

Do you have a multimeter, can you test the wires where they plug into the deck? I assume the aftermarket deck works fine with an alternative power source (like at the battery)?

This can't be too complicated it's only a power issue and we are dealing with 3 wires. Sooner or later the problem's gonna show itself.

If it is still giving you problems, verify that the deck works by hooking it up to power. After you know the deck works grab the multimeter and check your +12v, acc, and ground.
