would this be safe?

Could i mount a sub that has a 5.25 in mounting depth in a subbox.net box with a max depth of 5.5. Would this be too close, or has anyone done this. Im hoping that the sub will be a ED e10k.14

And I am going to power it with a Rockford power 551x amp, and hopefully hide this under a seat. That should work right?

thanks

Jim

From what I understand as long as you have a small gap for the speaker to cool and vent at the bottom you should be ok. I asked this to a person at a local audio shop and they said the same thing so I think you would be fine with the 1/4" gap. Though I am not a 100% sure I thought I would share what I was told.

I would not do it unless it was a side vented sub. I would use a mtx 8000 series sub. I have a screw and I have the same specs and it works great!

That would be plenty of room for the voice coil vent. As long as the hole is not plugged it will function prefectly fine without any ill-affects. You only need to allow it to move air in and out, it serves zero purpose other than to help cool the voice coil.
