Yet another antenna question

Hi,
I'm new to the site and just bought a 03 F150 4x2 and the antenna hits the garage. I did a search and I'm probably just going to cut it, but my antenna has what looks like a wire in it that spirals up the antenna. Will cutting any off cause problems with the wire? I don't really feel like spending $30 when I can do it for free. Thanks

Cool

If I am not mistaken, that wire is to reduce wind noise from the antenna. It does not serve a purpose electrically.

I agree with B-Man on the wire. I was told it was to cut down on the "Whistling" noise from the antenna with the air flow.

Great, thanks. I wasn't sure if it was really a wire, it just kind of looks like one. But the wind noise does make a lot of sense. I guess I'll give it a shot and see what happens. Thanks again
