6.5 component install tips

That amp looks like it will do nicely. Use the crossover on your HU, not the amp. But don't activate it until after you listen to the set-up "stock".
If you aren't getting distortion when you listen, let it play. If you do get some distortion, you might be able to adjust the bass level and stuff without using the crossover. Your call.
What's the S/N Ratio of that amp? The higher, the better. In short, S/N Ratio is one of the MOST important specs on an amp; yet most people don't know it.
It is generally accepted that anything better than 100db is not audible unless you are in a very quiet place or are sitting very close to the speakers.
A low S/N Ratio shows itself as noise or hiss coming out of your tweeters, midranges, etc. Obviously, if the HU has a S/N Ratio issue, the amp will faithfully reproduce that as well.
Anyway, good luck...

Well, I wanted something with an adjustable high pass but I'm tired of witing and low on mod funds so this may just have to do. I could down grade and get a Coustic amp that might be OK, but it's not an audiophile grade amp like the Eclipse.
The Eclipse ea2212 has a s/n ratio of 105. I knew what you are talking about but forgot about every checking that on all the amps I looked at. With a s/n ratio of 105 and the 5v output, and Eclispe desgin's, I should get a very clean signal and sound.
Well I guess I'll be picking this amp up tomorrow then , that is unless of course I can get him to upgrade me to a little more power and adj high pass for not much more.
Install date is planned for Tue and Wed of this coming up week if all goes right.

I really need your help now. Something went wrong with this install. I just finished the install of the MB Quart RSD216 6.5's and a Eclipse EA2212 amp. I am having a strange problem. Everything is installed and I think everything is wired right but I still have problems. When I turn it on all I get is a loud buzz or a roar, kinda has a reverb sound to it too. I'm thinking it's something to do with the Eclipse headunit I have, as the back speakers fail to play and they are still the OE speaker and wire. I did have my neg and pos from amp to crossover backwards on one side but that is now fixed. Did I damage something?
I do know my model (cd 5441) has a system selector switch on the back that is set according to if you have amps, DSP, EQ, crossover's etc. I had it set to ON like the book said and no luck and I tried it OFF as well. Also, it has 5v preouts but the Eclipse ea2212 amp has a gain control that goes to 5v as well, reverb sound gets louder with less gain control. I tired the amp on mono as well as stereo settings. Could a bad ground be the problem? Gonna recheck everything Sunday.
Thanks

Sorry for the delay, I just got back from vacation.
I would start by checking to be sure that you don't have a ground on any of the wiring going to the crossovers or the speakers. Maybe something got pinched? You could disconnect the speakers from the amp and connect a speaker directly to the amp and check for noise. If it is still there, the door speakers wiring is probably OK.
Second, disconnect the RCAs from the amp and jump the "On" lead to 12V to turn it on. Do you get any noise from the speakers? If it is silent (and the amp is on) connect 1 of the RCA cables to the amp (with the volume all the way down) and listen for noise. If no noise, turn the volume up a little and listen again.
Do the same with the other RCA, connected independant of the 1st. In other words, disconnect the 1st RCA and conect the second.
If you get noise immediately when you connect the RCA, I would suspect something in either the cables themselves of a HU set-up issue.
To eliminate the wires, run a cheapo RCA right from the HU to the amp, right on top of the carpet, etc. If it works, its a wire problem. If the noise is still there, it's probably a HU issue.
I'm not familiar with your HU so I'm gonna look around for some info on-line. I'll post back with what I find.
Good luck and don't give up. Once you get it, you'll probably say "Duhh" !

Not a problem hope you had a great vacation.
I was planning on trying another set of RCA's but I will try the other stuff to. I think it is a problem with the wiring at the radio or the radio itself as not even the back speakers which are still hooked to the radio only roar or buzz. I think I have a poor ground also and will change that. Got lots or work to do, let me know if you think or find anything.

Well, it's fixed... Now sure how I fixed it but it's fixed. I just started removing wires checking them inch by inch, tried 100 different settings and combos and nothing worked. I disconnected the speakers hooked to the amp hooked up to old 6x9's and all of it started working. I then took the drv side speaker out hooked it up while it was out and it worked. Thought well it must be the wire into the door or the cross-over. Before I tore back into everything my fiance suggested to try it one more time, I hooked everything back up and everything worked well. Stumps the hell out of me, I guess something was pinched or touching something that should not have been. I'm glad I took my time and did this one right. Everything is just the way I wanted it and everything is pretty much hidden except for the tweets on the a-piller.
I'm still getting a loud pitch sound upon radio turn-on which I suspect is some sort of amp turn-on thump. I also have the amp gain all the way to the max which is rated to 5v which kinda makes sense because my radio pre-outs are rated at 5v.
It's all connected and working now and do have to say "It kicks azz". Not as much bass response as I hoped for but then I had to high of hopes too. The sound is clean, clear, bright and tight all the way to almost max volume on some songs. Got some more fine tuning to do but I am happy for now. I can see where I need a sub or two now.
I really apprecaites everyone help, mainly you b-man.

Good to hear you got her going!!
I knew you would, you just had the "start-up" blues...
I was not able to find any info on-line about our HU, so I'm glad you figured it out.
About that thump - Are you sure your amp is switching off and on with the HU? It sounds to me like the amp is already "ON" when you are powering your HU up and that is why you get the noise.
Try powering the amp up with a jumper wire while the HU is off. If the amp doesn't thump then, the HU or the wiring is suspect. It might pay to check and see that the HU doesn't have 2 switched outputs, 1 for a power antenna and 1 for amplifiers. Although they both switch 12V on and off, the amp lead typically has filtering and a delay built-in, while the power antenna is just switched 12V. I fyou inadvertently swapped these 2, it might make for an easy fix.
Let me know what you find. If the HU is the problem, I may be able to help you with a different wiring scheme.

Yea it wasn't a fun time but now that it all works I'm tickled to death. Amazing sound and strong too, I need ot pull the door panel back off and tape some wires up as I can hear them rattle, didn't think I would need too.
The turn on thump I speak of is more of a high pitched squeak and it is delayed comparing to to the rear speakers. As you say my HU does have a pwr ant. wire and a remote wire as well as a cell phone mute wire. I'm 100% sure I hooked to the right wire as it's the only one out of the HU that is blue with a white stripe. I'm going to stop into my Eclipse dealer sometime soon and see what he thinks and to show off my handywork.
Speaking of Eclipse it is hard to find info on their stuff. They are not as popular as Alpine or say Pioneer but they are supposed to be one of the best out there I have heard. Thier website is www.eclipse-web.com, but good look finding my 2 year old model CD5441 on there, I couldn't.

I'm still having a amp turn-on squeel/chirp problem. Not for sure if it's a physical problem or a setup problem. I know I'm on the right remote wire as it does delay the amp turn-on but I still get the chirp, it sounds as if it is mostly the tweeters. I tried a different set of RCA's as the Eclipse dealer suggested to no avil. I have the amp gain turned all the way up to 5v to match my 5v preamps outputs.
Once again I have a Eclipse C5441 HU with a EA2212 Eclipse 50x2 @ 4 0HM amp pushing RSD 216 6.5 MB Quarts. The headunit has 5 volt preamps and the amp is also rated for up to 5v inputs.

Gotta it solved. Besides the turn-on squeel I kind thought the sound and power I was getting was not right either. Turns out I had short in the + tweeter wire. It was pincheed in the parking brake mechanism that I took off to run the wire into the driver side door. All is fixed and right now with no speaker or amp damage I have found yet. It really rocks now, I gotta turn the bass, mid, and treble to like - 3 just to stand it at any volume.
Before the fix I could max out the radio volume and not distort on some songs. I thought to myself no way these MB's are that good to handle 50+ w RMS at full range. Now it fets so loud that I can't stand the sound level to find the distortion point. So to say the least it really kicks.
Allthough I did trade one problem for another as it sounds like my AC compressor might fail soon. Now the AC system I understand a little better and can fix easily.
