XM Question

I've seen some good deals in the weekly ads for XM radio from Circuit City, Best Buy, etc. The problem is they charge $80 for install, say I need $30+ for parts, etc... Is this correct? I would like the Delphi Tuner because of the functionality of being able to use it at home, with the boom box, etc. $129 for the tuner, $64.99 for the car kit, and $49.99 for the FM modulator...all from Curcuit City. My question is, how much more should I expect to pay after this?

Thanks for the input!

Cool

If you don't absolutely have to have the Delphi, this is what I bought just the other day. You would only have to pay for the install, but Best Buy had a special going on new XM sales. Installation was included if you activated there...

Good luck !!

Anyone wanting to try the XM world, I found a deal almost too good to be true:

The Sony Plug & Play Satellite Receiver Car Package With RF Modulator Model # DRN-XM01R.

$99.99 at Best Buy, and then you get a coupon for a $75.00 mail-in rebate!! In other words, for about $25 you can be listening to XM!

The kit comes with the receiver, the docking cradle, a FM modulator, remote control and antenna. You don't have to use the modulator; the unit has line level outputs on it as well. All the miscellaneous goodies needed to install are there as well. Pretty complete kit.

I'm unsure as to how I'm gonna' mount the cradle in my 'Screw. I'll probably take a little time to decide how and where. Any suggestions are more than welcome!

BTW - I bought the home kit ($29.99) which gives you a wall power supply, a docking cradle, line level RCA cable, remote control and antenna. Then you can pull the receiver out of the truck and plug it in the house too. Pretty cool. I've been listening to it since lunch time here in my office. Already hooked!

If you go this route, be sure to activate via the XM web site. It will save you $5.00 and it works in about 20 minutes.

I know th unit you're talking about. Is that only in the stores? I can't find it on Best Buy's website.

Cool

gschein -

I checked the web site and you are right. Maybe they are going to stop carrying them ??

My local Best Buys (5 of them) all still have them in stock, although the most I saw in a single store was 4 units...

I'm going to do the permanent install this weekend...

No Luck at Best Buy

You're right...Best Buy does not carry them anymore. The only FM modulated option they have is the Delphi receiver. You can only get the Sony with the cassette interface. Seems odd as you don't see too many cassette players in newer vehicles. Anyway, Circuit City still carries the Sony FM modulators. Here's what they quoted:

Sony DRN-XM01R2 - $49.99 after $150 rebate ($75 instant/$75 mail in)
Antenna - $49.00
Install - $80.00 for unit and antenna
Home Kit - $66.00 so I can listen to tunes at home

I'm going in tomorrow for my install...will let everyone know how it goes after.
