98' CD Changer ...???
98' CD Changer ...???
Bought my 98' Extd. Cab, 4x4 Lariatt new in Dec 97' and got it w/ the factory 6 disc changer system.
The changer frequently fails to recognize that the 6 disc cassette is in the unit and when it does it more often than not produces very distorted music which is un acceptable for listening [skips, loop repeats, echoes etc etc].
The FEU gives the "NO CD" message when the failure to recognize occurs and seems to function as normal when the CD acutally plays [albeit distorted].
I do not think this is an FEU problem as all other FEU functions [cassette, radio and other features] function normally.
Any suggestions?
Loose connections?
Dirty heads [ I have clened them w/ a CD cleaner] but not w/ alcohol and Q-tip...
Worn out"
POC?
Any info or direction would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me nutz and I don;t have the extra $ right now to plop down on a repair or a highly improved aftemarket changer.
Thanks...

Really hard to say. I tend to agree with you in that it sounds like the CD...
It wouldn't hurt anything to pull the HU out and confirm that the changer is plugged in securely. The changer has a seperate plug on the left back side of the HU whereas the harness for the speakers and power and such is located in a more central rear location on the HU.
Good luck...
