Do the XM stations bleep out the cuss words or what? I mostly listen to rap, and sometimes the songs that are edited really suck.

Maniac, the Rap stations are un-edited. Well, two out of three are, XM65 The Rhyme, and XM66 Raw. XM 67 The City, is edited.

With XM, any station with the letters XL after the station ID is unedited.

Talking Delphi (XM) radio installed in my Screw!

Here's a post I put in the supercrew section...

Welp, I finally installed the Delphi XM radio receiver that I got for christmas in the screw. For those of you who don't know, this radio comes in two parts: the receiver and remote control, and the auto installation kit (mounting bracket, satellite antenna, wiring, etc). Here's some pics of the installation (not the best but it'll do for now):

Here's a back-seat view of the front console, with the Delphi XM receiver "mounted" directly next to the power outlet. This seemed to be the most logical place and looks better in person (sometimes a camera doesn't do justice):

Here's a side-angle view of the receiver. I didn't use the mounting bracket that came with it. Rather, I went to Home Depot, picked up a thin piece of metal (I think in the roofing section), bent it about a 120 degree angle (I think) and slipped it under the plastic console (there's a groove there where a thin piece of metal will slip into easily). I then applied velcro to the metal and underside of the XM receiver, let it sit for a day and then mounted the receiver onto the metal. It sits at a nice angle and look at home in this location:

Here's the supplied satellite/terrestrial antenna from Delphi. I know Terk makes a nice one and there's even a through-the-glass antenna which I like very much and will probably replace the original one with in the near future. This was installed easily. It's magnetic and "clamps" to the roof as such. I then removed the third brake light and pulled out the plastic grommet that allows the brake light wires to pass through into the cabin. I slipped the XM wires through this hole, ran them above the ceiling upholstery over to the left-side passenger door, underneath the weather stripping all the way to the front and down. Then I ran the wires underneath the front dash over to the receiver. The wires are completely hidden (except when they make their appearance next to the XM unit):

All in all, this is probably the best $200 spent for the Screw, and I recommend XM radio for everybody whether you do the install yourself (about 30 min) or have it professionally done.

azwebguy,

Maybe you can answer a question I have about the SkiFi unit. Does the tape adapter plug into the base with a normal mini stereo plug like a pair of headphones has? I've got RCA inputs on my HU and have been thinking about the Delphi unit and getting a patch cord to connect straight into my system.

Thanks,
Sven

I'd have to look for certain but I'm 99% sure it does use a mini-plug...

You could always just use a cord that goes from the mini plug to rca's. I'm not sure what they are called but I know you can get one at radio shack.

azwebguy,
Thanks for the info.

SpankDog,
That's what my plan is.

I guess I'll find out soon enough. I found a deal I couldn't refuse on a SkyFi.

I got sirius in my truck and I love it. Bought the tuner and cd changer at the same time, after installing both I sent the changer back for a refund- I don't listen to cd's anymore and I get bored out my freaking mind getting in a car with "regular radio". The only reason XM subscribes more people is the fact that they sell home tuners as well as cars which sirius does not do for now. No worry though, hook up the pc to your stereo and listen to it over the net. Also Wal-Mart sells XM and not Sirius, so that is an advantage for XM. I have not lost a signal yet and you will immediatly be suprised at the volume you can turn your radio up to, just by having that digital signal. Both are great buys, but when I got my sl I wanted a totally commercial free radio source, and that is what I got. Who wants to pay for commercials, come on what is two bucks a month, two sodas. Please be a pimp and get the sl XM or SIRIUS, you will be glad you did. Hey ever wonder what that song is on the radio, worry no more it tells you right on the screen. I love my sl and can't say enough good things about. And SIRIUS is also unedited.

PS I am not a salesman, just a satisfied customer

Sirius radio is awesome the sound quality is amazing, XM would be the same I'm sure. TV tuner works quite well too. Only problem with the touchscreen is fingerprints as you can see.

Hmm...not sure, but I can't imagine why it wouldn't be. This is, after all, satellite radio. As long as you can see the sky, you should have access.

XM is only available to the immediate borders between the US and Mexico and the US and Canada... Here's a link:

http://www.xmradio.com/faq/help_sub....=0&pgSize=10#1

It's all about the federal governments... Like the FCC (USA), Canada and Mexico have their own versions that want a slice of the pie for licensing and such.
