Quick and Easy Cd player question
Quick and Easy Cd player question
I want to install a cd player, most likely from best buy... but on the F-150's they have so much room around the head unit area and the cd player is so skinny... what do they do about the extra room? What choices do I have to fill the excess area on a '98 f150?
Thanks in advance.
Thanks in advance.
Whats gonna happen is if best buy installs it or you (doesnt matter which one) your going to need what is called an installation kit. They are available from your local walmart or audio retailer. It is a kit that turns that big hole into the little hole your talking about and put a pocket(storage space) under it so that theres no hole. Go to sounddomain.com and look for your truck model and im sure youll see plenty of pictures of aftermarket installs.

Double Din is the way to go.
It is the receiver that will fit in your factory hole. I doesn't look as weird as the small skinny Single Din receivers. But they are a little more pricy and harder to find with fewer to choose from. I am having trouble finding one that has the black trim instead of the bright *** aluminum look. I want it to look kinda normal at first (more thief proof). Best buy has one for 350 last time I checked. I believe it was a JVC tape/cd.
I have an 01 SuperCrew with the standard radio. If I pick up a 6 disk CD and the radio that comes in an 01 Screw will I find the wires in my Screw for the six disk CD player, or will I have to order the wires from Ford? I have Capt chairs.

You'd have a better chance of getting your question answered if you started a new thread. Not complaining, just letting you know I happened to see your question as a chance kind of thing.
Anyway, the stock units (HU and changer) are connected by a single cable that carries both the audio and the power. If you grab a HU & changer, be sure to get this cable as well, because it will probably be difficult to locate one elsewhere.
On my '98 Ext. cab, that cable was run under the driver's side door sills to the changer that was mounted under the rear seat.
Hope this helps...
