Intake kits on ebay

I saw one person say to stay away from the steel tubed ones because of rust but what about the aluminum ones? The prices are very aggressive on ebay for the kits. Anything else to look for? As a side note not many of them come with K&N filters but I figured I would use the one it comes with and pick up a conical K&N later.

I'm interested too... Which ones are aluminum? I saw one for $50 that didn't look half bad.... Are there any driveability problems with these (like mustangs when they pick up warm air from under the hood... surging idle)?

Intakes on Ebay

Hey Yall, I got my intake off Ebay, However I didn't screw around, I got a K&N FIPK. Just wanted to let you all know that I have heard some bad stuff about the off brand intakes they are selling on Ebay. First off I should start by saying if Procar Parts is the seller, (Buyer Beware). If you don't belive me just take a look at there feedback once. They average about a 100 negatives a week. Also, I had two horrible experiences with them myself. Second, I heard that the directions with some of them leave alot to be desired. Also some of them don't seem to fit the Truck or Vehicle like the should. Not trying to tell yall what to do, I just look at things diffrently. I feel if your gonna spend $ my to upgrade your vehicle with some mods, then spend a little more and get a quality product with a company who stands behind it if you have a question or problem.( Just think if you get one of these off brand kits and have a question or problem, Who are you gonna call for some assitace.) Well, not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to add some helpful suggestions. Well, I said my 2 cents. Good luck with your Deccesions. Ps. Let me know how you make out.

Aluminum does rust. Plastic does not. If you want a cheap intake go buy some 3" sewer drain and elbows at Lowes and make your own. It would be cheap and work

Stainless steel will rust if neglected but in reality it is pretty east to keep up (AirForce 1). Tomato Truck, no offense intended but Aluminum does not rust. It may oxidze but it contains no iron, iron rusts.

After doing a bit of searching on here I have found that MAC has a good reputation for these FIPK's. It's kind of funny because at the corral.net MAC=JUNK.... maybe they should stick to truck parts.

Anyone have good/bad experiences with the MAC kit? How about the $50 aluminum tube kits on Ebay? What should I be looking for in a FIPK (bracing, certain filter type, baffling)??

I have to agree with Gear Head...aluminum will oxidize but will not rust. I have been around a lot of aluminum scuba tanks and have found a lot of oxidation on them but have never seen one with rust.

Rusted Aluminum? Naah I think your basic metalurgy is a little off, as stated there is no iron ( or there should not be any ) in Aluminum so you wont see it rust anytime soon. ( If you get rust on your wifes wedding band you might want to head for the hills! ) lol lol lol

So what's the verdict. Any of the cheap ($50) kits OK? Should I pay the $135 for MAC? Or should I look only at K&N/Air raid FIPK's??

I've got an AirForce 1 and like it a lot. I might give the MAC a try. It looks like a lot for the money. I would probably hold off on a $50 kit. Most of the good filters cost more than this. I would question whether or not it was good enough.
