What intake is the best?
Hey 2001 Check out wmsracing.com ,they have what is called a Vecity Tube .I put one on my truck ,it is working good.It uses the stock air box and replaces the air silencer and use a larger tube to the fender opening .Also it only cost $180(Canadian) delivered to my door.
I did have the WMS fresh air kit on my last truck and really wasn't happy with the way it fit anf the finish of the product....kinda cheap I guess!
Who would of thought that picking an aftermarket intake would be so difficult!
K&N replacement filter ($70.00) or WMS fresh air kit ($150.00) ???

I'm also looking into a Air Intake system. Check out Truckperformance.com, they carry just about every system out there and have very good prices as well. I have to admit, the "Airforce 1" looks and sounds to be the best deal!Truckperformance.com
I just installed a Mac intake that I purchased on EBAY from Poorboys Perf. It was $138.00 shipped to my door. The quality is excellent and it looks great. I couldn't be happier and the price can't be beat. I've looked at all of the other kits and this is as nice as any of them. It is a chrome tube, with K&N filter and even comes with a heat shield. Best of all it is a dutch bid so you are guaranteed one at this price.
I just got my airforce 1 yesterday, and i love it. looks awesome under the hood and i can really notice the difference. The day i got it a guy showed me his and he was happy with it too. Man it goes awesome with my stainless steel radiator hose.

2001...
Here on Vancouver Island, Lordco has the K&N FIPK for about $280 CDN. The parts dep't at the local Ford dealer retails the Airforce I for $450!
I personally am a believer in drawing cold air in from the existing hole in the fender, or even enlarging it as the article max mitchell suggested. For this reason, I am leaning away from K&N and more towards something that uses the existing cold air intake.
Still shopping around. I can't believe the price of the Volant! Neal the HP freak was going to have something ready pretty soon too. I'm kind of interested to see what he comes up with---Jack.

Anybody have any poop on the MAC FIPK? Hey jscoggin ... what kinda' difference did you notice after the install? I know it's a K&N on the end of the tube - is it a stainless tube? How come they're sooooo cheap?

I too looked at the test results of the three kits
and wondered what happened to the 8-20 HP gains that all these manufactures are claiming!!! Well the short answer seems to be that the are quoting the gains found after they replace the most restrictive of OEM intakes (old gm 454) and then test with the hood up so their FIPK can get some cool outside air (you too can get HP gains, just drive around with your hood up!!)So I decided to save my $250 and do a 'poboy' kit my self, one that gives the motor real cold air!
1) took the snorkel off
2) enlarged the fender opening
3) trimed the OEM filter housing to enlarge the opening
4) replace the OEM snorkel with a 4" dia rubber flex hose
Results 5.5 RWHP at a cost of less then, oh yea IT WAS FREE the $50 I spent was for the dyno time!!
K&N my A** how dare they all charge that kind of cash for such meger results, oh yea, you all keep paying for it
