bumper hole

Is there any thought out there about putting a guard in the bumper where the cooler sits in the front bumper does it cause problems or should i just leave it as it is ?

sounds like the OP is asking about a grill guard for the lower opening in the bumper to protect the intercooler for the ecoboost. Rumour has it that Ford dealers are telling owners not to install them due to potential cooling issues for the intercooler as a result of less airflow, but this is just rumor, I've yet to see, hear anything that proves this.

Yeah its prolly just some dealers looking for any excuse not to honour warranty work. The OP might be talking about the power steering cooler.

I made mine with some help from this site!

There is a step by step process on this site that shows how to make to make you own intercooler hole cover. Some expanded metal, a cutting weel, some door edge guard (my idea to sharpen up the look). Check it out......use cardboard to make a template, took me aout 2 hours. I painted mine with high temp flat black paint after a good primer to seal the metal. Looks like the attachmnts are not working right now. Go to my pic forum and enlarge the head-on pic of my 2012 EB. You can actually use the existing bolt holes for the license plate mount.

We have a family run business for truck and car accessories over here in right outside of Detroit, Michigan. We had an engineer come in for stuff for his truck and ran us up one wall and down the other about the bumper grills we sell and how they will cause cooling issues for the Turbo Intercooler on the EBs. But we have never had someone have this issue... That being said we have about 6 different kind of grills available. Black, Stainless, Billet, Mesh (to match Lariat Grill) and even a stamped bar type to match the bar grill style.

Gee you'd think as an engineer, instead of being a ***** about it, he'd might have said Ford should have put the IC in a better spot.

No offense to any Engineer's but some of them have their head so far up their a**... All of us over here at the shop that if your gonna be an automotive engineer you need to work 6 months in an assembly plant and 6 months in a repair shop. Some of the stories I could tell you

Most engineers know their stuff and can design stuff that is cost effective and easy to work on. But then all us will be working on our own cars and trucks. Most automotive companies make a lot of money in selling spare parts and dealers in the installation of those parts. This stuff is design on purpose this way. Example 1997-03 Ford F-150 headlight switch assembly. Now that is a product of a twisted mind.

Talking

Gee, they design a truck, stuff a small displ engine with lots of boost and HP and heat in it .... and they put a intercooler behind "an opening" they also thought to include .... and people buy this truck and expect it to be designed to accomodate every form or aftermarket attachment known to man .... even those that block or at least partially restrict or redirect cooling air through that opening .... thus deminishing the effectiveness of that intercooler?

They should know better.

I know this thread is a few months old but do you have a website or pics of these grills? I'm looking for a chrome lower bumper grill that matches a 2012 Lariat factory mesh grill.

Thanks

Bug Screens

Not to hijack this thread but while everyone is talking about the bumper opening in front of the EB cooler, has anyone tried to come up with a bug screen to cover all of those coolers up to keep them from getting plugged up with bugs? The famous Love Bug fall season has just started here in Florida. I just picked up my new '12 Platinum Tuesday and would like to get something put in so the radiators don't get all plugged up and I don't want a big screen drapped all over the front of the truck (UGLY! ! !). Any ideas? There is far less space to work with in there than I had on my '09 :-( Sure would be nice if someone made an aftermarket screen that could be attached to the backside of the grill on the hood to protect everything. We have this issue twice a year down here (spring and fall) and you don't want to let those damn things plastered all over the paint because their guts are acidic and it will eat right into the paint!
