Ive got a 2005 5.4 3v and i need two new coils and was thinking of performNce ones.. has anyone tried or does anyone have msd or accel performance coils in their truck? Do/have they lasted? Any noticable performance gains?

There will be no performance increase with aftermarket coils. The bad news, the aftermarket coils don't go through the SAE reliability testing the OEM coil manufacturers go through.

Accel has a bad history and the above post is correct. The stock coils are far more than adequate. Many on this site have bought Uneek coils off ebay for about $125 for eight.

Ignition system theory! If you aren't getting misfires, you can't improve on that.

i know this isnt 100% relevant i had a 95 tbird back in highschool it had the 4.6 and i put the (2) MSD Coil packs on it part # 8241 i think it was i even had msd 8.5 wires just to look cool ANYWAY first initial drive after install w/ new plugs gapped at factory spec, eh, not so much more hp took em out, gapped em at 60. and yeah there was a difference but the kicker was....year down the road, i popped out a plug just to see how it was doin and it was red..talkin some pretty lean conditions whether that was the coil or something else like not enuff fuel or too much spark...car is long gone now
