Ideas on Remote Start
Alright, I got the Viper 5901 installed. I was inside Bestbuy, and the guy started the truck from the inside to outside, and it worked. Now, when I get home, I tried it from my 3rd floor balcony and my truck sounded like it was trying to start, then stop, then try again, it would do this process for 3 times, then turn off for good. I don't know if it's because I was showing my wife the commands and unlocking, locking, remote start and it was over loading the system or what, but I don't know. When I finally got it turned on, I turned it off and tried the process again and it tried to start 3 times and then turned off. Anyone else having the same issue?
When it remote starts and fails, you should hear a relay clicking. Count the clicks, then refer to your manual. That should tell you what the issue is. Or take it back to us, we have a lifetime warranty on our workmanship.

If the theft light is not flashing then it sounds like they have tried to set that truck up as a tachless sensing. Look at your engine and see if they have connected a wire to one of your fuel injectors or coils. You will see a grommet to the left of your brake booster. This is the typical spot to run the wires through the firewall. See if they have run this wire. On the 2004 Heritage or before models I always recommend connecting to the fuel injector for a tach signal. Running it tachless will just be a roll of the dice.
Okay, I'll look into it. So far, when I went out to the Hooters and the bar last night with friends, it has worked. And it just worked now, so I'll look into it. Uncle Sam said I have to spend the 24hrs at the range, so I wont be back until last night of the 6th or early morning of the 7th.
do any of you have the iphone(touch) module and how well does it work? i have an older python and thinking of having it put on wifes expy and having the newer model with the iphone module installed on mine.
Remote start is working awesome, I just believe there's a cool down process on how many times you can start the truck (ie: on, off, on, etc), because it works perfectly if it's left alone for alittle bit. As for the SmartStart, I was told the SmartStart module costs $199-$299, so I told BestBuy that I'll hold off on that.

Smart Start is now available for the Blackberry.
Friday, January 08, 2010 -- Directed Electronics announced that its Viper SmartStart, which allows users to start their car with their iPhone, will also work on most BlackBerry Smartphones starting in Q1 2010.
According to Mike Simmons, Executive Vice President of Directed Electronics, “Viper SmartStart will soon be available on BlackBerry devices through a free app in BlackBerry App World, providing BlackBerry users all of the great features that iPhone users have been enjoying since the product was introduced in October.”
BlackBerry users with most security or remote start systems from Viper, Clifford or Python will be able to download the free app from BlackBerry App World, have SmartStart professionally installed on their vehicle, then activate their account. Depending on installation, users will be able to start their car, lock and unlock the doors, arm or disarm their security system, pop the trunk, or panic their siren, which can also be used as a car finder — all using their BlackBerry.
According to Kevin Duffy, President of Directed Electronics, “We are making Viper SmartStart technology accessible to tens of millions of BlackBerry users — a significant and distinctly different market from the iPhone, whose users are likely to be just as receptive to the innovative features offered by our product.”
Retailers already carry the necessary hardware — either the VSM100 Viper SmartStart module, or the equivalent DSM100 Directed SmartStart module, each with an MSRP of $299. Besides the free app, users will also need a compatible Viper, Python or Clifford remote start or remote start/security system, available at thousands of authorized retailers nationwide including Best Buy stores.

I agree. Now if your phone is lost or stolen, you get to worry that your vehicle gets jacked next. Sounds like a gimmick with no real value.
Is it still just ATT though or is it going all networks?
For most your right, its just a gadget. But some dont buy units with a larger range, but still want to be able to start their car from a distance.

I understand the "silly" side of that but a few years ago when I was employed by Ford Accessories I would drive a company box truck all day. Back then my Excursion had the Code CA670 with the Car-Link module on it. I would start my truck when I was 10 miles out on the road heading to the shop. By the time I showed up, pulled my tools from the company truck and clocked out I had a nice warm running truck in the parking lot. That was pretty handy.
Now that I am in my truck all day long I never found myself ever really using it.
