E-fan brands

Ok. I know we can pull fans from Mark VIII's, early 90's Taurus, and I'm sure there are a few other vehicles tat we can take from. As that is the cheapest route, I am iffy about pulling electrical parts from a salvage yard, as you don't know exactly what you are getting into, so therefore, I am going the new fan route.

I have searched eBay for fans, and they have a pretty healthy selections. I'm just curious about the brand names. So if anyone can help me with any insight or info to them, it would be great! Brands I have found so far are as follows:
  • Spal
  • Chrome
  • Procomp
  • High Performance
  • New Hayden
  • SNEM (supposedly same company that supplies the Big 3)

I do not have a lot of insight on brand fans. I went with the expensive Flex a lite 270 kits.

If you're not looking to spend that much money, I understand. I have heard good things about the spal brand though. If I was looking to cut some corners when it came to price I'd go with dual spal fans and the Flex a lite pn#33054(Variable Speed Control Module).

Good mounting of the fans and a quality controller are the keys I think.

probably doesn't help, but i got my mark viii fan from ebay. none of the local yards had any mark viii's, so ebay was the next best thing. the seller claime he had tested it prior to selling. it's been running strong for about a year. i think my total cost with the dc controller was around $160ish. to me, it seems that OEM parts tend to be of a higher quality than aftermarket stuff at the price point i was shooting for.

So you have these hooked up to your truck along with the clutch fan? Or you swap them out depending on the season??

I have a set of the Troyer fans that I bought form another member, and after a lot of homework, bought the new Spal programmable VS controller to run them. IMO, the money goes to the controller and quality wiring and connections. I do like the quieter S blade fan though.

There's a group of guys in CA at a1electric.com that were pretty helpful for me as I tried to brush up on fans much like you are. I think I spent a couple of hours total phone time on this subject and they kept having the best no nonsense answers. Good luck.

yes they are hooked up along with the clutch fan. when the a/c compressor turns on the fans come on and when the engine temp gets hot enough to make the clutch fan kick on high (because its a 2 speed fan) they will turn on to help cool the engine around 198 deg i think is what there set at.
we dont hardly have a winter here in south east texas maybe a week of 30 to 40 deg weather and the rest of the year its hot so it needed some extra cooling to help out.

I've found Hayden controllers to be unreliable, and one 16" fan isn't enough to cool these trucks in heavy stop and go traffic, much less keep it cool with full A/C.

Raptor knows that his single 16" fan isn't enough. He was in another thread talking about how it was making his truck overheat and had to turn the heater on......lol. The misinformation that is spread of this forum by someone is uncalled for. To add insult to injury he is a technical article contributor.

I hope f150online doesn't have him do an efan install article.

If so, we'll all be riding around sweating our butts off and running the heat in the dead of summer.

He knows that he needs more than one fan, as his other one is on the way.

And he may not do everything right, but he takes the time and inniative to do a project himself, so I give him credit for that.

FYI though, most of his technical articles have been DIY exterior/appearence mods, you should check them out.

Scott, its nice to see I still have a few people here that are still jealous. You should do something contructive and maybe do a write-up on your own than waste our time reading slanderous remarks

Well I've been running mine for about 4 months now, so far no problems. I've heard good things about their quality, but if they crap out on me (which I doubt) I'll be sure to let you guys know. If I had to get another controller, it would probably be DC Electric.

A1 Electric is an EXCELLENT company. I have them in-line for a power-window kit for my truck and have heard wonderful reviews about them. Even seen a few of their products on the Speed Channel (Overhaulin project cars, TRUCKS! mods, etc).

Derek, so you have a time frame on when you are going to do yours? Any idea on the setup?
