Reinforce Delta Gullwing toolbox top for LARGE CB antenna mount.
Reinforce Delta Gullwing toolbox top for LARGE CB antenna mount.
Okay, here's the scoop. I have a Delta Gullwing crossover style steel toolbox. I am yanking it off of the truck to sand it down, prime it, and repaint it. (The factory paint on these sucks more than a 5HP cyclone dust collector!). I currently have a 102" stainless steel whip antenna for the CB (4x4 club rules require CB, and if I am gonna have one, it is gonna TALK dangit!). I have the large 1" diameter amphenol mounts, but it still is bending the top of the toolbox. I have it caught pretty early, but I want to reinforce the toolbox top to keep it from flexing so much. I was thinking about doing the following, but have no idea how to actually attach it...
Add old circular saw blade with 1/2" arbor (same diameter of the mount stud) lined up with the hole from the underside... I don't want it visible.
I can epoxy this in place, but how do I set this up without messing up my ground?
Even if I did weld it, it would distort the thin sheet metal of the box which I want to avoid.
I am considering a ring connector at the bottom of the stud, and running this to the bolt on the back side that holds the ground for the toolbox to the frame of the truck. (Okay actually the front wall of the bed...)
Can anyone else suggest a cleaner install or reinforcement method?
