I don't think this will help you. I had remote start on my '96. Bought the Ford system and had it installed by one of the deal mechanics who moonlights. For the hassle/time it may take to install it perhaps you can also find a moonlighting mechanic to do it.

honestly i think your best bet would be to have it professionally done. it's pretty tedious with all the wiring & you dont want to mess anything up with wiring things to your starter. i had a tech at my shop put in one on my 97. watching him do it...there is no way i would try it myself...but that's me. i just had one put in my lightning by a guy who works at circuit city.

For your truck you will need an immobilizer bypass module for the remote start and if your planning to get a remote start with an alarm you will have to diode isolate each door trigger. These are the only two things that may be difficult if you do not know what you are doing, everything else is pretty straight forward. You will need a wiring diagram for your truck, a multi meter to test your wires and plenty of light under the dash. If you have never done this plan on spending about 4 or 5 hours on the job.

the12volt.com has wiring diagrams for many vehicles and is usually pretty accurate

I have a Autopage in my 03 Ranger $250 + tax works great,my 03 FX4 crew has a ford gold $300 plus $300 labor works great, both have remote start and alarm. If you get both you have only one fob too deal with, some remote starts just have the fob for the start and not for doors,if get both one fob does it all. It's better too have someone who knows what they are doing on cutting the wires to install the sytem. Thats my 2 cents

Contact Travis at KCAutosound. He prewires everything specifically for the Ford vehicles and will tell you how to wire it and give you all of the instructions on how to do it. Everyone I have spoken to that he has worked with is very happy with his service. I am waiting on mine to be delivered but I'm sure it will be straight forward when it comes in. He has told me it takes 14 wires to do it all and he tells you what each of them needs to go to.

Travis at www.kcautosound.com all the way. In the past four years I've installed almost 30 systems from him for friends, family, co-workers and neighbors. On top of that many a stereo or other equipment from him as well. Any of us on here can say that he may not be the cheapest but you pay for quality product with quality customer service to back it up. He's a straight up honest guy that not only sells equipment but also installs all day long locally in Kansas City with over 18 years experience in the biz. Sometimes I like to just call call him to pick his brain about something and if he doesn't know the answer he is sure to find out for me.

Travis's installation instructions have been designed by feedback from first time installer/customers like us. They give you pictures of how to take you truck apart as well as wire locations and what colors to connect to. He even tells you what readings you will get on a volt meter or test light.

KC Autosound used to be all about Code Alarm systems but he has started to introduce other manufacturers into the lineup from AutoPage, Compustar, Python and Autostart. All systems bring their own thing to the table. I'm really liking the Autostart AS-3742 system with the 2way transmitter and 3000 foot range. I've installed two of them now and think it might be the next one if we get a new vehicle. I would suggest you contact Travis either by email (travis @ kcautosound.com) or phone (816)868-2481 and he can answer any question you throw at him.

I went with the Code Alarm SRT-9000. USB recharchable keyfob, color screen, and one of the more current alarms from Code. I've always been a big fan of theirs and never really had problems.

I should be getting mine in the next few days if Travis has shipped it out

And yes it is an alarm / remote start combo.
