I have a Valentine One and love it. It works great and has gotten me out of a lot of tickets. Ever since I got it I’ve been speeding ticket free. Of course you still need to be aware of those cops who just sit there w/o putting out a signal.

I’ve used several other brands and none of them even compare to the Valentine One. It’s a little expensive but well worth it.

Yeah I had a couple Cobra radar detectors and they were junk. The only thing it really picked up was the signals from automatic doors. I wouldn’t waste any money getting one of those. I heard some good things about the Escort Passport but if you want the best I would get the Valentine One or obey the speed limit. lol

If you are on a budget, the Vector series at Circuit City does pretty good. By the Vector series, I mean the V940, V955, V965, V995. Regardless of what it says on the box (or what the sales guy might say), they all have pretty much the same detection range, they just have different features.

Of course, there's always the top ones: Escort X50, V1, Bel Sti, Escort 9500i, Bel RX-65, which all cost 300+ dollars. Raw sensitivity, V1 wins for both radar and laser. The problem with this might be that newer users might not like to know about every radar source, but a little programming quiets it down a bit.

What state do you live in?

But yea, Cobras suck.

Just for the record, I know the V1 gets great reviews from many here and around cyberspace, but I though it was pretty ordinary.

I purchased a Passport 8500 X50 a couple of summers back, whilst vacationing in S.C bacause they're illegal in V.A where I reside, and couldn't be happier. It's saved my **** on a couple of occasions, where, I know for a fact, the V1 would not have..... because, through a frequently travelled stretch oh highway, the V1 never notified me anywhere near as soon as the Passport 8500 did.

Quote - The Passport 8500 has been hailed as the most revolutionary radar/laser detector ever. Forbes.com said, "it might be the best radar detector ever made!" Popular Mechanics called it "state of the art." RadarTest.com named it "The World's Best!"

For around $250.00 - $300.00, I think it's a steal!

Good luck.

x2 85-- can be had on ebay brand new for 150 nowadays too since the new 9500s are out. The 8500 is kickass though.

I love my Passport 8500. It can't tell you right or left, but once you get used to it, you can tell if it's ahead of you or behind you. I find myself driving like an idiot more and more. I don't know that doing so is a good thing, but the 8500 gives you a feeling of invincibility.

I have owned the Escort Passport 8500 and now own the Passport 9500i. For some reason, I think the 8500 had better range than my new 9500i. Don't get me wrong, the 9500i gives plenty of notice, but it is a lot more expensive. The great thing about the 9500i is that it uses GPS. When you get a false alert you can lock it out where it will not go off anymore at that location. Also you can save speed trap and camera locations. It can also be programmed to show your speed so if your truck has large tires on it and you speedo is not recallibrated you can use that. If you have the money to spend, spend the $450 and get the 9500i. If you are tight on cash, go on ebay spend the $150 and you will not be dissapointed.

Not immune. Only the STI is immune to all Spectres. The older V1 used to do pretty good, until they converted to the whole temperature compensation stuff.

Of course, there always the good ole "hit someone with instant on radar and watch for brake lights" method.
