I've had lots of them. The high-end BEL's are pretty good, but I bought an 8500 x50 and was amazed at the lack of false alerts incredible range.....until it quit working. It lasted a little over a year, then went into the "Service Required" Display-of-Death. I sent it back to Escort, they "repaired" it for 80 bucks and sent it back. Two weeks later, it was the same old Service Required" jazz.

Because it was such a good unit, I figured I had a lemon and bought another one. Never left it on the windshield, kept it in it's fancy little box, took it inside when I wasn't driving, kissed it at night (?) and it lasted 10 months before it took the "Service Required" dump. I had had it, so I threw it in a drawer and forgot about it for months.

I dug it out a couple weeks ago because I almost got nailed, and figured maybe it had "healed" itself. Nope, same 'ol message. I was getting ready to smash it in the driveway, but for some reason that I can't explain, I stuck it in the freezer overnight. The next morning, I plugged it in and it WORKED!!

It lasted almost a day, but when I turned it off and back on, CALIBRATION ERROR, SERVICE REQUIRED. I stuck it back in the freezer, put it back in the truck the next morning (it worked). I haven't turned it off for two weeks, and it's still working and detecting. F150's, at least my '07 Screw, doesn't drop power to the lighter when you start the truck.

There are pages and pages of complaints on most of the radar testing sites about this exact same problem. When this one quits again, I'm going to throw it out the window and probably buy a V1. The Escort is a GREAT detector when it works, but for that much money, a problem that they clearly know about but won't fix is unacceptable. I'd really prefer to buy a 9500, but I have lost all trust of this Company, as many other have.

I bought a whistler pro-78 I read a lot of reviews, they all claimed it was up there with the escorts but couldn't touch the valentine. I have not had any problems with it, I have it hard wired into my truck. Some idiot broke into my truck and stole the 12v plug for it though. I don't drive fast anyways I only have it to know when to roll my windows down...

V1 here, works great, though that passport one that d/l's photo radar spots intrigues me.
