My best guess is for the light pattern. My friend had a broken one (painted tip) and the inside of the tip was silver.

Why is this so important?????

ummmmmmmm.......Why not just call a manufacturer and ask? I don't know what the correct answer is either, but it would be interesting to find out.

Because sometimes the guy that paints the tip black calls in sick.

I'm sure it has something to do with race--to much white and not enuff black. prob government mandate. won't buy product without equal opportunity rights.

Just a theory:It could be that some bulbs burn hotter than others. It would stand to reason that the tip is the weakest part of the bulb, and the silver tip(with black on the outside) protects the tip from the excessive heat? Just a theory,,I don't actually know ,,,,,98

The reason I asked is because I did the fog light swap to 9005's and the original equipment fog's have a painted tip and the 9005's don't.

And I will be pissed if any damage is done because you shadetree mechanics talked me into modifying my truck....

Exclamation

If it's O.E.M. there should be no problem. With aftermarket, it's buyer beware! Good luck.

Don't worry about it any damage. I replaced the ones in my 99' about 6 months after buying the truck because the facoty ones kept blowing. There was no problem with them and I had them in for just under 2 years.
