Calling all Airaid owners.....
I need your input. How many of you have the " whistle at idle " after installing the Airaid Induction System ? Just for the record, Evergreen Performance ( makers of the Airaid and Poweraid ) was quick to inform me that the Airaid is not called an FIPK. That is what K&N calls their setup.
I installed my Airaid back in the winter and the only times I heard the "whistle" sound was at highway speed. When the hot weather set in I started getting the "whistle at idle" a different and much louder noise ( very annoying ). The slightest touch on the gas and the noise stops. I do not have this sound at cold start up. Only after the engine is hot and then it's 100% of the time.
I am not trying to slam Airaid here. I really noticed a performance gain and think it's a quality built product. It was a nice, neat looking install. When I talked to Evergreen Performance on the phone they said they haven't heard of this problem before. I removed the Airaid system and reinstalled the factory airbox. The noise is gone.
So, before I call them back I thought I would try and get some feed back from you guys and gals. Please let me know what engine you have also.
Thanks in advance !!!

No wistle here on the 4.6L, try and find a breather element for the valve cover and remove the small hose that goes to the intake tube.
I love this Airaid, I wish I would have bought it right off the bat instead of dinken with the home made air box mods.
They just don't stand up to the stomp and romp I get now.

You wistling noise that you hear may just be the sound of air rushing into the filter. It is not silenced by anything, so open the hood at idle and see if that is the noise you hear. If so, that is just how it is. The 5.4 will take in more air than the other engines, so that may be why it is more common with the 5.4s.
4.2 and no whistle.
I recall reading something about the gasket
or something where the sensor is installed.
When At Idle check under the hood and feel around wher the sensor is installed as well as check for tightness around the Clamp at all connections.

I have the K&N Fipk on my 5.4 and tihe whistle is the air rushing through the filter and into the MAF sensor. Seems a little noisier during hot summer weather. Sounds a little like an open carb without air filter. Remember - the air filter and MAF sensor are completely covered and enclosed by stock airbox with purpose of keeping it quiet.

Ok here is my fix for that annoying vibration that sounded like a whistle...It come from the hose that the silencer box is attached to...My fix was to put 2 hose clamps on the hose before the silencer..I tightened the clamp till the noise went away..didnt affect the performance at all...The silencer box is the L-shaped thing, the left hose from the sensor...Dave

Thanks for all the great info and suggestions !! I know this issue has been discussed here in the past but I've never seen where anybody found a fix.
I did notice that the noise seemed to be coming from the filter. If the air rushing through the filter is causing it why does it stop when I start moving. Wouldn't that create more air flow and make it even louder? Why does the warm weather make a difference ?
The only reason that I took the Airaid off was Evergreen suggested I do so to see if the noise went away. I will be reinstalling it soon, whistle and all. I didn't realize how much difference the Airaid made until it was gone !
Davensa , I will give the double clamps a try. Thanks !!
It does look like the problem is only on the 5.4
Thanks again everybody !! 6,000 heads are better than one !!!
I'll keep you posted.

I don't have the whistle but it may be because I noticed a potential problem when installing. There is no gasket between the MAFS and the metal mounting bracket that comes with the Airaid. I assembled the unit and stuck a drop light inside, you could see light almost all the way around. I called Evergreen and they said they didn't make a gasket and had never heard of a problem. I made my own from gasket material. You could also have this same air gap and the noise could be from air going through the crack at low revs. At highrer rpm the air flow would be different and no sound. Just a thought but worth checking.
