A remote start maintanence

Anyways, thaught I'd try remote start out the other day, no worky. Everything else works like lock/unlock (that and stop/start are the only other fcn's) but no start. Had this happen before, in the winter so I cleaned the battery posts and connections, and lubed with dielectric compound/ brake caliper grease from Motorcraft (ford). I also did inside the red plastic boot ion the starter and all the e-fans connections to the main controller. She works good now. It is a Polar start unit I got in late 99 for my 2000 f-150, thaught I'd share.

Hood pin was probably the problem. If the pin is grounded, the unit thinks the hood is open and will not start as a safety feature. Often, the switches get corroded, break, bent out of alignment, etc. Sometimes pushing them up and down a few times will fix it. Sometimes you will need a new pin. If the vehicle starts with the key, cleaning the battery terminals should not make a difference weather it remote starts or not. You may also try lifting up on the edge of the hood while it is latched and remote started. If the engine shuts down, the hood pin needs to be adjusted.

Tried the hood pin first, no dice. Even the wire that connected at one of the C.O.P's , 7 or 8 was leaning against the EGR (slight melt of wire), thaught that was it, nope. Finally did the terminals, ta da- works fine. Not to say the hood pin wasn't a good suggestion, especially due to position and abuse, but she's fine. I have put di-electric on it years ago when corrosion was starting and no probs since.
