nerf bars
nerf bars
I just bought a 1999 F-150 4X4 SC LB with a 5 speed..I want to install nerf bars, but I'm not sure of which brand...Westin makes a great bar, but it mounts to the BODY...NOT to the frame. Any ideas?????
I've got Smitty Built Sure Steps on my 97 SC 4x4 and I love 'em. They happen to come on my truck as a dealer add-on but I'd of bought them anyway as I've had two other sets on other vehicles. I've always liked them for their quality and cause they tuck up nice and tight. I thought these hung down a bit low (approx. 3" from body) so I removed them, drilled a few new holes up higher, added some flat washers to cover the frame offset and voila'... They are pressed firmly to the bottom of my rockers (with thin rubber in between to stop vibration noise) and they look great. Smitty gets my vote for looks, quality, fit, and finish. Nerfs are also an excellent idea to help avoid those frustrating door dings.
I am looking to buy Under the door nurf bars Black powder coated for my 97 standard cab Fareside. Is there anybody out there that can put me in touch with a supplier. I am not looking for one that has a step. Just a round 2in pipe type. Thanks Gary

It may be a great idea to buy a 4X4 magazine like Petersons 4X4 Off-Road. There are a large number of mail order houses that have exactly what you are looking for. I myself have the Smittybilt black powder coat nerf bars. Did you check with the Truck Performance Center?

Larry, do those nerf bars fit tight up under the truck? I see pictures of some that stick out a few inches and some that tuck up under there nice. Does it matter where you drill the holes? Or do you need to drill holes with these smittybilts? Thanks!
I just bought the smittybilt ones as well. However, I do not want to have to drill. Thus, they make a modular system that allows you to mount them without drilling. i haven't installed them yet but I am looking forward to them. The winter weather here in NH isn't condusive to laying on the ground.
Mine are for a 98. Cost was $187.

I get TRUCKIN mag but they don't have the kind I am looking for. They have them for the extended cab but not the Flareside. I will keep lookin. Thanks! Gary

I chose the Luverne nerf bars for my 99 F150 Lariat 4x4. They are a bolt on package, though I had them installed by the "Truck'n Stuff" shop. I like them because they fit nicely under the door and the rear bolts to the frame, front to the existing cab mount bolt. Very sturdy and the stainless is nicely polished. No door dings-yet!

I've got a 98 standard cab regular bed. Bought 3'' black powercoat nerf bars. Took about 2 hours to install. Just drilled the holes and bolted on. (I welded them too just to be safe) Their by ram offroad products.
$138.00 For the pair. I love them.

I just bought and installed a pair of MAAP nurf bars,They bolt right on with no drilling but there is a wire harness attached to the frame on the drivers side that I had to pull off and then tyrap to the nurf bar, this would have taken about an hour if I didn't need to figure out the wire harness part. My truck is a 99 F150.

The Smittybilts DO fit up underneath nice and tight. Yes you do have to drill holes to mount them or they can be welded on if you like. I am 35 years old and had my 16 year old neighbor help me put them on. It took about an houre and a half. When you look at the Smittybilts, you will notice immediately that the way they are constructed as to the the mounting flanges, there is no way to screw up the installation. The flanges are contoured to fit the frame of the truck. You can, however, move them up and down prior to drilling holes if you want them up tight or down a few additional inches. I have had them for over two years now in the clearcoat gloss black and they have held up great nd look fantastic. No more door dings with these puppies!!!
Good luck.

I got the Smittybuilts for my 97 SC offroad. I got the black ones, but chrome are available. They've been on for almost 2 years now and they still look great and are very strong. I'd recommend them to anyone!
