Question A good Bug Guard?

Anybody have a recommendation on a good bug guard. There are quite a few to choose from, so I am a little lost. Pics in catalogs seem to be a bit deceiving.
I am looking for a guard that has a close profile to the hood, but doesn't touch it and doesn't require anything to be stuck to the surface of the hood to prevent rubbing.
I may sound picky, but that's the way I am with my baby. It's all in the details.
I was leaning towards a Lund, but the picture I was looking at in a catalog appeared to be mislabeled, so I am not sure which model it was. Interceptor maybe.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

BLUE2k,
I got the ford bug shield, very happy with it. I take it through the car wash all the time. no problem
Did you buy your truck at Quark Ford?
If you did, are the trucks priced as advertised?

Bosch45 its Quirk Ford,I bought a 99 lightning from them you can definately bargain with them, its always good to go to any dealer with as much info as possible, unfortunately there service is terrible they tied up 3 of my Saturdays to fix rear window molding, always got truck back filthy one time grease all over leather and suede seats.Truck was always needing something its an awesome truck but very high maintenance.I traded it in for the truck I have now which I bought from Natick Ford also got a great deal because I went prepared and I now only let Jack Madden Ford touch my truck in Norwood.

Lund is a good bug shield. They didn't have the steep slope that I wanted so I couldn't get one of them. I personally bought a sheild that screwed into the hood. They are a lot more solid that those ones with the clips. I had one on a different truck and it never seemed to tighten good enough. Just my opinion.

I HAD the Ford bug shield. But the d*** thing cracked right up the middle this winter. When I took it off it was broke in half. I am going with Lund this time, they advertise theirs as unbreakable.

I have the Lund Interceptor and it's great! It screws into the hood underneath and does not touch the hood. Been on for two years and is not discolored or cracked.

Bosch45,
I did get it from Quirk. You can haggle with them on their prices. I bought the truck during a big sale, so there wasn't much more wiggle room. I also checked out Dave Dinger in Braintree. They have a different sales approach. No bargaining, lowest price is posted on vehicle. THey seemed like they would have better customer service, but the price was close to a thousand higher. Still, seemed like a good dealership. Maybe I'll take the truck there for any service.

Chuck wheet and scmc75 - Does the lund interceptor screw in? That sounds like a better install to me. Atleast you can remove the shield if you need to, and not have to mess around with 3M tape.

BLUE2K,

Yes, the Lund screws in and is VERY sturdy. I do not even see it move at highway speeds. You can also get it painted to match your truck.

I had a LUND Interceptor for 5 years. 'll be getting one on the new truck, when it gets here. I've put 130K miles on the truck in the last five years and it has been replaced 3 times. I bought it at an RV place and they installed it. No problems touching the hood anywhere. It broke two times from road debris kicked up on the interstate and one time I pushed on it in the winter pretty hard <0 degrees and it cracked. All three times the RV takes it back and gives me a new installed for no charge or questions. I did have to pay $60.00 for it though. Which is high but at least when it cracks I don't have to send it in and wait for a replacement.

Cool

I also have the Lund Interceptor, installed it myself. Simple installation and no problems. Had it for a year now and one WI winter without any problems. I had one on my 93 Ranger for 3 years in CA with no fading.

Angry

DONT get the Profile brand, they suck.
They attach to the hood with sticky things.
I'm going to replace mine at some future date with a better one.

54, I also have the profile brand, and yeah, it has the dumb sticky things. The only reason I got that one was becuase it was cheap. I regret it now, should've spent the extra dough. I just hope the stick-on velcro circles don't mess with the paint on my hood. Has anyone had a problem witht these things? With the exception of the stickers, I'm quite happy with the deflector otherwise.
Have you had any other problems with it?

Just that I might add that I have the Ford brand installed (on my 1997). I live in quebec Canada so cold winters are no strangers here. Never had any problems with it and I do sometimes catch myself going into automatic car washes.

Question

Quick question about the Lund Interceptor. Are there drain holes or something in it? I had a deflector (some obscure off-brand) on my old Ranger that held the water, snow and ice up against the lip of the hood until it started rusting. I have been leary of putting one on my new truck, even though I do like them, for fear of the same thing happening.

Recurvebow,
I'm pretty sure that your hood will not rust. I think it's made of fiberglass or aluminum or something like that. It seems too light to be regular steel.
Someone on this list will know for sure......

BTW, I have the factory Ford bug shield (yes, it has rubber bumpers stuck on the hood), and I'm very pleased with it. I got it just after I purchased the truck, and it's covered under the bumper-to-bumper warranty for 3 years! I've been through those automatic car washes a number of times, and it wobbles around, but doesn't do any damage.
