Summit Racing prices:
Richmond ring & pinion $189.95
Richmond install kit $99.95
Do it yourself?
Get a Ford service manual for an F-150 or a Mustang or anything else with a 8.8 rear. Read the section on "Axle, integral carrier - 8.8 inch ring gear." Look at what's involved, and at the tooling and gauges required, and decide for yourself if you have the equipment and capability.
There's a reason that rear end shops get a couple of hundred or so to set up a r&p.
BTW if you already have a 3.55 the change to 3.73 really isn't IMHO worth the effort or expense, if you have a 3.08 then maybe.

Post 3.73 gears

How much would it cost to buy these gears? Are they hard to put on or do you have to have someone put it one for you?

Question

side step it took me about 6 hours to do a 8.8 because i had the right tool to do and the know how. if you change the gears go with the 4.10 or 4.11 and not the 3.73. also if it is a LS rearend change it to a trac-lock i think it will last longer than the LS but that is about a 400.00 dollar upgrade. i think the clute pic is around 75.00 new. it is a lot easyer to do it the first time than do it twice if you add the trac-lock later. also the end shop here wanted 300.00 labor to do. for that price i wound of upgraded to a 9 inch readend a lot easy to replace axle seals. but that is may opinon good luck on the discution.

strangeranger i order the install kit when i did but the bearing were the wrong size. it was cheaper to get bearings from the auto parts place than sending the kit back.
