Remote Start Choking My Engine?

I have the Viper 791xc or whatever model # remote start two-way.

The past few days, I've noticed that when I start my truck, occassionally it stops running after 2-3 minutes. Then this morning I started it, and the remote said it was running, but the truck WAS NOT running.

So my question is who I hit up first? The installer or the dealership?

Anyone else ever have this problem?

truck shutting down.........

I guess i need to ask a question first.

Do you have underdrive pullies on the truck?

And also, does the truck start up and then shutdown then start up again.

1. I also have the same viper system, the sensor for the viper to know that our trucks are running comes from the voltage output of the alternator. This presents the problem with the underdrive pullies. With the kit on the engine it does not allow the engine to run the alternator fast enough to maintain the out put needed.

I have talked with viper and there is nothing they can do to solve this since they can not change the program in the "brain".

I am working with them and will be talking to Mike T, hopefully tomorrow.

You can adjust your idle up a little bit and that might do it, but the truck computer may compensate and still bring the rpm down to low to get the signal needed to tell the viper the truck is running.

If this isn't your situation let me know what you find.

I'll keep this post updated as i get it figured out.

Thanks,

Funny you should post today, because I got a new "brain" installed today and was about to do a follow up.....

To catch you up, last week I went to the installer and had them look at it. They said that the brain seemed to have problems, adn they would have to send it in to get a new one. So they yanke dit out and sent it......Today I go back by and have the new one installed. During testing, the new "brain" was doing the same thing the old one was. They replaced the antenna thinking that was the problem, and it worked a couple of times. They said that they had to replace the antenna because this "brain" was designed a little different from the other one. The remote also has an additional button on the back bottom that has a P on it, so I assume this is a new panic button that my other remote did not have.

So, here I am with a new remote, new "brain", and new antenna, and nothing works reliably. I'm having the same problems I was, except now I can't arm/disarm consistently.

No, I do no thave any aftermarket engine mods such as pulleys.

I'm getting really upset that this "King of Alarms" lasted me 60 days then went kapudt. I'll go back to the installer tomorrow.... and by gollie they WILL get this fixed. I'll update in the next day or so......

Thanks for your input thus far though.....

Alright......

I went back to the installer today and dropped my truck off during lunch and went back to work.... A couple hours later, they call me back and say that the fuse holder was loose, and wasn't making continuous contact, therefore giving me intermittent function.

And the new button on the back of the controller is for "programming", not "panic".

So now I have a new brain, antenna, remote, and fuse holder.... All of the "newer" version than previous. Yeah! But still not worth all the time spent.
