Exclamation 04-05 Volant Intake Diffrences?

Ok, we all know that in 04 they changed the F150 and I know for a fact that Volant makes a aftermarket intake for the 04 as well as AIRRAID, and the FIPK by K&N...........BUT, here is the catch. I also have heard that between 04-05 they made some minor stock intake changes to the 5.4 and when you call any of the shops to buy an intake for my new 05 5.4 they all tell me that no one has one made to fit but AIRRAIDE, and its not the same part number as their 04. After talking with the owner of VOLANT he wasn't aware of the fact that shops were not recomending his 04 intake for the 05 as well. Later he asked me to snap a few digital pics of under the hood and send them to him so I did. He called me back and said they look identical but would have to see the truck in person. The drive to his shop is about 65 miles so this week I am goin down to have his guys look and try the instal to answer the question once and for all. My goal is to see if infact I can prove all the shops wrong and use the 04 inatake on my truck even though Ford has reconized some sort of chage between the 04-05 5.4 V8.

So my main question is has anyone put the 04 5.4 Volant system on their 05 NOT their 04? I will keep you all updated with what happens.

Thanks,
Nick

I thought that the Volant intake made the 5.4L 3-valves A/F mixture run dangerously lean and that is why they’re not being recommended by local shops.

Hmm I never heard that. Tony (owner) said he will hook my truck up to the dyno before and after to see results. He also told me that his system has the biggest gain in performance as to any other aftermarket intake system. I also like the idea you can purchase depending on your make/model of your truck one of his optional air ram scoops that runs off the bottom of the filter box and sits in the lower valance to pick up cooler air. If any of you have questions about his product I will for sure pass them on and let you all know. I will also take a bunch of pictures.

Let us know how it turns out but, do be careful...

I have read elsewhere about this extremely lean condition with the Volant...

Recently, the Air Force One was released for the 5.4L 3v. This might be another option for you... I'm running one and, while I've never dyno'd the truck, I can tell you that my gains were impressive after installation (on top of my exhaust and tune).

jpdadeo,

Excellent response. Thank you for finding that information. There were a couple of posts from Mike T. that I had not seen. I just ordered the Airforce 1 so I should be OK.

I know that Volant redesigned their intake tube to deal with the lean condition. Mike Troyer said that he had tested every intake on the market in March 05. The fix occured in December 04.
On another note, the extra scoop looks low enough to suck up some water during a heavy rain...Kevin

Kevin where did you see that. I talk to someone who has a True Flow and he has had a good expierence with them and many other new Ford members have recomended their product. I cant see how it can hurt. It uses the stock box, with a better filter and a larger more direct plastic intake tube? So whats the problem with them. Not to mention the True Flow is alot cheaper, not that I care because I am lookin for a performance gain. Let me know what you think.

That post came from Mike Troyer. He is constantly testing every aftermarket item that is available, performance wise for F150s. Especially for the 5.4 3v engines. Currently, he recommends two intakes for this engine. They are the Airaid (not airaid jr) and the Air Force 1. You can call them if you like. Their phone number is on all their posts. Screen name is Superchips Distributor in case you don't know...Kevin
