aftermarket air intake- PLEASE EXPLAIN

After looking at different aftermarket systems I am confused. I know the stock air intake is rather restrictive but it does draw air from the front of the truck. I looked at the K&N set up and used every bit of reasoning in my skull and cannot come up with the reason they call it "cold air intake". The filter sits by the radiator and that sure isnt cold air, the pipe is stainless and isnt the most heat conductive stuff, even if it was aluminum or some sort of copper alloy the air just goes through it to fast to make that much of a difference.

Am i missing something here, or is it just a fancy name they threw on the box.

Is there a system that uses the hi-flow filter but draws the air from the front of the truck?

Any comments on cheap intakes on ebay, will my sensors hook up to these?

Right now I think I will just put a K&N filter in the stock piping and sacrfice restriction for cooler air

most "cold air" intakes arent cold air inatkes at all. they do just what u said, they create a more open area for the filter to to pull air from. u will see a little gain beacuse the better filter will flow more air, but thats about all they do besides create a different sound(which is nice)

if u want a true cold air or ram air intake, you would have to channel fresh outside air directly to the filter. those "cold air" intakes prolly suck warmer air than the stock intakes

There is an Air Force 1 available for your 99 5.4 patiam69. I had one on my '01 5.4 SCrew. There is not one that has been proven yet for the new 3 valve 5.4. Give Troyer Performance a call at 540-862-9515 and they can fix you up with one....
