AirForce One Throttle Body Cowling

Does this part actually block engine heat from reaching the intake or is simply a visual add on?

visual add-on. Although, it might could possibly maybe block a tad bit of heat, just from accidentally being in the way or something, but for all intended purposes, it is cosmetic.
