I posted this in the engine forum with no responces.
I have a '97 F-150 with a 4.6L. This is the truck with the oil filter behind the driver side bumper. I have recently noticed some leaking from the lines feeding the filter at the point where the hoses are connected to the metal lines.
I want to replace this as I'm now going through about 1 quart every 3000 miles and I'm planning in switching to synthetic oil in the near future.
Can I just unscrew the stock relocation kit from the side of the block just like an aftermarket one? Should I buy another kit from a Ford dealer or go aftermarket? Will an after market kit screw to the side of the block where the stock one came off?

I would leave the Ford one on & fix the lines that are leaking. The Ford system is a real good setup. Very costy too!!!! I priced it once over $ 500 or $600 to get all I needed to install. I bought an aftermarket for $ 40.00 .

I thought that the block adapter plate on the stock Ford kit was not a spin on type, but a bolt in place of the thread base.
I seem to recall that last summer Neal ( I think ) posted the Ford part numbers for the whole thing ( the list that totaled ~ $ 400.00 ). There are 2 bolts I think on the block adapter plate that would need to be removed, and the spin on plate ( the male thread part ) would be needed to put it back in place of this part.
Take a look at the post with the Earl's braided SS line and AN fittings, if you want to replace the lines with something that can be rebuilt if needed in the future.

Okay, everybody agrees, Keep the stock setup.
Next question. How do I repair the leaking fittings?
Do I just get a tube cutter and cut the metal lines, flange them and start over with new servicable fittings and hoses?

Okay, naturally I want to have everything I need before I start cutting oil lines. I haven't looked yet, but I'm thinking two 2 1/2-3 foot lines and adapters to go from the stock Ford metal lines to the new hoses.
I know I'll need the measure the O.D. of the stock lines I want to hook into. I'm not sure what the engine side of the lines look like yet. If there are metal lines there also, I should need four adapters.
Am I missing anything for this project? What size line should I get? I was kinda thinking 5/8.

Are you sure you want to start chopping HIGH compression lines because that's what those fittings are!I had a 98 and mine use to sweat around the fitting where the filter goes for the amount of money these trucks cost I made my dealer fix it just b%tch a bit and they should do something!Or find another dealer! Call Gary Star at www.fordpartsonline.com he might have an idea GREAT GUY! If your going synth. amsoil make relocators for the truck that allows you to change the filter without losing the oil because it's not required to change the oil at 5k I change mine every 10k and even that's a waste!

1. the way Galaxy did his with AN fitings and Braided SS hoses.
The only open issue is the thread size on the stock Ford kit.
or
2. The list o parts for the stock Ford kit and get the replacement lines if you want to maintain the stock kit 100%.
I put them all here, in case it is needed again in the future.
