I currently have a 2012 FX4 with the stock backup camera in my review mirror. I recently purchased a pioneer AVH-4200NEX and tied the camera to it's 7" screen as well. Now it is displayed on mirror and screen. However, the resolution on the stock camera is terrible on the larger screen. It looks fine on the smaller mirror screen. My question is if there is a camera out there that has a much higher resolution that I can swap out my existing camera with and still use factory location on the tailgate.

 

I have a 2013 FX4 with the large Sync screen in the dash. The factory camera has great resolution on that large screen. I'd check with Ford to see if that 2013 camera is higher res than yours, and I'd imagine it's a pretty straightforward swap, as the camera housing in the tailgate emblem is probably the same from 2012 to 2013... All of this is speculation though... Good luck!
