2008 F150 Navigation System Bass

Ok well I installed a 2007 Fusions nav in my 2008 F150 and everything works great except for the lack of bass, literally its all treb and no bass or very little. now this one is programmed to work with the options that my truck has. my truck only has speakers no sub. but this nav has an input for a sub in the back. does that mean I just buy the factory sub and boom everything works? or is it more complicated then that?

I don't know how the factory systems work, though they're usually very "self-contained" and there aren't a lot, or very few, wires that you need to mess with. But the amp for the sub, I think both should be together in one unit, has to get a large amount of current from somewhere other than the radio. Or so I would think, because aftermarket ones usually have a direct line from the battery.

I know this is an old thread but I have done tons of research on the Pioneer factory nav units. In this case it sounds like the sub output is turned on but he doesn't have the sub. There are people who can reprogram these radios and turn on/off features depending on what they are installed in. To find out how yours is configured hold down the 3 and 6 preset buttons simultaneously. The radio will enter a self test mode and perform a speaker test for all speakers. You can scroll down and enter configuration settings and that will tell you what is enabled/disabled in your radio.

From what I understand from looking at the diagram. The sony sound module is responsible for pulling the bass and treble speakers out of the main 4 speakers harness.

You have to send it to someone to reprogram it. Not something you can do. You can add the factory sub if you have the wiring harness for it. To add an aftermarket sub it would be easier to buy a low level adapter like the pac-oem. I have the contact info of a guy that programmed one for me to match my defective one in my Lariat. PM me and I'll give you his info. Will cost about$100.

I added an aftermarket sub to mine and am much happier than if I had the oem sub. Look up rodneys boxes on ebay. I got a loaded 10" box from him that tucks nicely in the factory sub space and has more than enough bass for me.

If your truck already has the wiring for the factory sub, then all you need to do is add the factory sub box and have the headunit reprogrammed to turn it on. The factory wiring pulls power from a 25 A fuse IIRC for the amp which is mounted on the factory sub box. The only thing that comes out of the radio is the 5v turn on signal and the pre out level sub signals.

If you want to go aftermarket and you have the wiring already there, all you need to do is step up the 5v turn on to 12v for the aftermarket amp and splice a pair of RCA's onto the pre out leads and plug them into your amp. No line out converter needed. And run your power wires, unless the amp you choose pulls 25A or less then you can use the factory power wire.

There's no need do that, 5v is definitely enough to tell an amp to turn on. It's no powering it, so the voltage doesn't need to match what the amps power voltage levels are.

For most amps, your right but there may be some out there that you will have to do that.

Offers programming and sub harnesses if your truck is not equipped with one.

My 08 Lariat crewcab was pre-wired, the one plug was tapped off behind the radio and the other was under the carped by the driver rear door. There was already a slit in the carpet for it to pop out.

This statement is not always true. There are several amps that will not take a 5v turn on. PAC and others make an adapter for $10.
