GPS, backup camera, hands-free phone...

Hi everyone. I just write this post to seek help and share my idea about how to choose and select these electronic product for my 2012 F150 XLT.

My F150 came with very basic set up. that is no backup camera, no dash monitor and no hands free phone.

I just back from my vacation and winter is coming. So I spend whole morning to google some products I need.

My original list is:

1. Backup camera.
2. GPS
3. hands free phone.
4. drive recorder.

I don't want to have too many monitors in my truck. Ideally if there is a product can do all this stuff that will be great. But it seems there is no such thing....

So I deleted the driving recorder from the list, which is less important at this time.

Luckly, most GPS offers hands free phone function. So the list become"

1. Backup camera
2. GPS with hands free phone function

I need a backup camera with CCD camera and also night vision. I really hope it could be viewed on the GPS monitor so I don't need an extra screen in my car.

I know the top brand of GPS may be Garmin and TomTom, but this two company's products don't offer such function.

Any recommendations?

I have been looking around too.

I received recommendations on the Kenwood head units if you want GPS built-in. They use Garmin maps.

I decided against a Nav unit and bought a Pioneer as that was the suggested unit for my needs.

I am trying to get a camera together now. I want the Ford emblem with camera built-in but don't want to spend the big bucks they want for them.

Best of luck.

I just bought an inexpensive camera along with a tailgate handle (with camera hole) for just less than $40 on ebay and have it hooked up to an independent monitor in her truck at the moment which only turns on when the vehicle is in reverse. It seems to work well at night, operating with very low LUX since the stock reverse lights on a 2008 Explorer Sport Trac are bright enough to let the video be seen.

As for a GPS unit, check out Magellan GPS units, particularly the Roadmate 9055-LM or the Roadmate RV9165T, as they not only support a hands-free cellular function via bluetooth, but they also have a video input for connectivity to any video device with a composite video signal through a 3.5mm male phono jack.

Honestly, if you have a modestly high budget then you can work with any GPS unit out there. However, if you're limited on budget, then you might want to wait considering standalone parts are much less expensive (i.e. camera and housing, dedivated reverse monitor, standalone GPS unit, and standalone hands free bluetooth unit).
